About this listen

“Disinformation is one of the leading causes of death. If that isn’t true now, I say it will be.”

For hospital physician Dr. Mark Lin, nothing is more gut-wrenching than saving a life only to see it taken by murder.

When one of his patients is killed by a suicide bomber blowing up a clinic, everyone points the finger at a group of anti-abortion extremists. Mark, however, knows the killer’s final words and has a different theory about the culprit: a secretive healing cult called the Path to Purity. It seems the only way to get answers and avenge his patient is to join the Path himself.

Juggling the dual roles of doctor and undercover cult follower, Mark treats patients for ill effects of the Path’s dangerous practices while also proving his worth and advancing along the Path’s ranks. He has only one goal: get close to the mysterious leader known as the Sun Priest and destroy the cult. But the deeper he goes, the deadlier things get. Mark will stop at nothing to uncover the truth, before getting trapped in a heinous plot that could spell devastation on a massive scale.

Toxic Minds is Anthony Lee’s medical thriller where healthcare collides with disinformation and a hateful mind losing touch with reality is the most dangerous of all.

Toxic Minds is the second audiobook in Anthony Lee’s Dr. Mark Lin Medical Thrillers series, and just like the first, it had me hooked from the very beginning. With each new installment, this series keeps getting better, smarter, sharper, and even more relevant.

Mr. Lee is proving to be a real talent when it comes to writing medical thrillers. He understands how to mix suspense, timely themes, and grounded characters in a way that keeps the story moving while still giving you something to think about.

What makes these audiobooks even more engaging is that he narrates them himself. Hearing an author bring their own story to life is something that I always enjoy because it gives you a unique perspective on how they see their characters and the tone they imagined when writing.

This time, the story looks at how disinformation can become dangerous, especially when it intersects with healthcare. Something tragic sets things in motion, and hospital physician Dr. Mark Lin finds himself pulled into a situation that challenges not just his profession, but his sense of right and wrong. Without spoiling anything, I’ll just say that the book explores the tension between science, belief, and control, and does it in a way that feels both believable and urgent. The tension builds slowly and steadily, with just the right amount of pressure to keep the listener engaged.

Mr. Lee’s writing style is clear and direct, and he does a great job of keeping the story focused on the people at the heart of it. The dialogue flows naturally, the pacing is tight, and the stakes feel real without being over the top. He also manages to weave in medical details in a way that feels accessible, never overwhelming.

If you enjoy medical thrillers that feel timely, grounded, and genuinely engaging, Toxic Minds is absolutely worth your time. And while it works well as a standalone, I’d still recommend starting with Doctor Lucifer to fully appreciate how the series is developing.

I’ll definitely be following this series going forward, as it’s gripping, smart, and consistently entertaining. As always, I suggest checking out the Audible sample first to get a feel for the narration and tone. Hearing the author tell his own story might be just what convinces you to hit play.
