 In folktales, the trickster can be the wise one or the fool, the one who fools or the one who is fooled. That is why children of all ages enjoy hearing these tales. The psychology of childhood is pretty much the same everywhere, giving these enjoyable stories universal appeal.

In these four tales, told in Spanish and English, the trickster takes animal form: a monkey, an opossum, a dog, and a rabbit. Storyteller Olga Loya has selected these stories from her book, Momentos Magicos/Magic Moments, winner of the Aesop Accolade Award and the Americas Commendation.

These stories are excerpted from a larger, award-winning collection titled Momentos Magicos (Magic Moments). The trickster is a shady and layered figure whose true nature, intelligence and intentions cannot be taken at face value. The trickster may or may not be sincere. The trickster can be discovered as friend or foe once its real character is exposed. Author and narrator Olga Loya performs these four morality plays in Spanish and English. Loya does not sound like some polished and emotionally distant professional narrator. She sounds rather like a kindly aunt. Her laid-back conversational tone and bi-cultural flavor will endear her to listeners. Children will take pleasure in these vivid animal tricksters while learning to trust, doubt, and reason.

Interesting trickster tales

As a beginner to learning Spanish the audiobook is interesting and entertaining. It’s the story in english then the story in Spanish. It’s fun.
