Publisher's summary

A lot can change in three months: wars can be decided, nations can be forged... or entire species can be brought to the brink of annihilation. The Morningstar Virus, an incredibly virulent disease, has swept the face of the planet, infecting billions. Its hosts rampage, attacking anything that remains uninfected. Even death can't stop the virus-its victims as cannibalistic shamblers. Scattered across the world, embattled groups have persevered. For some, surviving is the pinnacle of achievement. Others hoard goods and weapons. And still others leverage power over the remnants of humanity in the form of a mysterious cure for Morningstar.

Francis Sherman and Anna Demilio want only a vaccine, but to find it, they must cross a countryside in ruins, dodging not only the infected, but also the lawless living. The bulk of the storm has passed over the world, leaving echoing thunder and softly drifting ashes. But for the survivors, the peril remains, and the search for a cure is just beginning...

Wonderful follow up...

What did you love best about Thunder and Ashes?

It picks up from where the last finished, phew!

What did you like best about this story?

The return of the well worn characters and the continuation of the journey.

What does Oliver Wyman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He's got a hold of the characters and continues his good work for this book too.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Oh yes, sat in my car (having arrived at my destination) not wanting to switch off. Excellent!

Any additional comments?

Entertaining

I love the series and while ZA Recht told a better story I think all three books are worthy of a listen

THE zombie book

What made the experience of listening to Thunder and Ashes the most enjoyable?

Every character has unique characteristics that make them easy to follow. Most of the the characters are relatable and the bad guys are absolutely the bad guys. I really enjoyed the zombies!!! Not boring run of the mill moaners and groaners but sprinters and shamblers! The military jargon in the fire fights is intense and so much fun to listen to! Is it bad that I would have loved for Brewster to turn into a zombie instead of Willis?

Who was your favorite character and why?

Anna is my favorite character. She is tenacious and well respected in her field, which adds a LOT to the overall story.

Which scene was your favorite?

The attack on the raiders camp was my favorite scene

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

AIM FOR THE HEAD...DONT MISS

Still Great

The story continues and action is top tier. I managed to figure out a few things before they happened, but I also think of myself as a zombie enthusiast, and blame it on that.
Once again, the performance is amazing. Each voice is so distinct that I don't even need the name read after a sentence to figure out who was speaking. Getting the third book right now.

Zombies + Infected = Genius

Z.A. I love how you have merged Romero style shamblers with 28 days later Infected, brilliant. I can't wait to read book three: Suvivors hurry. Also i fully expect at least two more books from other survior's p.o.v., and maybe set a few years later. Thanks a ton Recht, and to the rest of you, buy this book.

The strain continues, for now.

The Morningstar trilogy continues with Thunder and Ashes. I found this book to be as good as, if not better than the first. Unfortunately, shortly after finishing this book I learned the author, Z. A. Recht, has passed away. There was some doubt about whether the trilogy would be finished, but his website says a ghost writer was brought in to finish the series. It should be out late 2011. Here's to hoping it is as good as the first two.

RIP ZA

Love the concept

If you can get past his ignorance of the military the book is great. Story line is one of my favorites. after reading the first book, i had to get the second. I hope the third one will be release.

God rest Z's sole.
