About this listen

Fleeing the cruelty of her abusive husband, Mercy embarks on a perilous journey with her four-year-old son, seeking refuge in the company of a grieving family. Grief that is only compounded when Mercy’s husband catches up to them. In the span of one moment, tranquility is crushed beneath the boot of brutality.

Now, Mercy must navigate the treacherous terrain of her heart, torn between two men she’s bound to by debt and duty.

Micah, haunted by a love extinguished too soon and shackled by a sorrow that makes God seem distant, is gruff but protective and ignites a flame of yearning in the ash heap of her soul.

Gideon, though he finds solace in his faith, bears scars of his own. His gentle friendship awakens desires she thought long buried.

Join Mercy, Micah, and Gideon as they discover that amidst the dust and ashes of their pasts, the promise of a new beginning awaits those who dare to choose faith.

Soo Sad, And Appears is a Series

Sigh. After all that detailed and lengthy journey of sadness and depression (seriously grab your tissues), I was really looking forward to a happily ever after, but it only starts.. potentially beginning but just. ends. So many loose ends and uncovered unresolved problems, so this story is not even close to being over. This was a really hard story to get through, but there are some really cute and sweet moments interlaced throughout that had me rooting for every member of this family/group and wanting to find out what happens (unfortunately so much is unresolved). There is also some romantic tension, a love triangle, and perseverance despite one's circumstances. But otherwise so incredibly sad and depressing, a hard journey trying to get to the Oregon trail, and everyone has so much grief and hardship. This could be considered very preachy as well, very religion-based, encompassing almost 40-50% of the story. The narrator did great acting out each character, even the children were really well done.
Trigger warnings: described domestic violence situations, abuse, rape, assault, murder, homelessness, child abuse, child death, lack of food.
