Acerca de esta escucha

During the Battle of Gettysburg, General Chamberlain recounted the story of how he and his 20th Maine Regiment Volunteers saved the crucially strategic Little Round Top from the Confederates. By thwarting repeated enemy assaults, through daring and innovation, he was able to save the day and preserve this vital segment of the battlefield for the Army of the Potomac and ultimately the Union. For daring heroism and great tenacity in holding his position on the Little Round Top against repeated assaults and carrying the advance position on the Great Round Top, General Chamberlain was awarded the Medal of Honor. His firsthand account of the action on Little Round Top is presented herein with few minor editing changes. By providing this information, it is hoped the reader will better understand and appreciate the courage and sacrifices made by both sides during this epic battle.

This after action report proves why Chamberlain was a leader of men, a hero, and yes, a professor of rhetoric.

He deeply cared for his men, and he was passionate about the preservation of the Union. His soldiers trusted him, thereby enabling him to use a tactic that was not well known.

The most chilling part of this dissertation was the letter written by a member of the 15th Alabama several years after the war. This soldier had Chamerlain in his sights twice and did not take the shot.

Well worth listening to this again and again.

This review has nothing to do with the content, this is a truly beautiful account of the happenings of events through the eyes of z Joshua Chamberlain. It’s a shame that a Chuck Woolery knockoff was commissioned to read it. It strikes me as a tone deaf and distasteful reading. I highly suggest Episode 393 of Jocko Podcast if you’d like to hear a wonderful reading of passages of this book from a veteran who gives brief thoughtful interjections.

I love this account by Chamberlain, can barely listen to this one though.
