But there is more to these stories than surface sentimentality: their eager anticipation by a whole nation tells us much about the age Dickens lived in. Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is undoubtedly his most famous story about the holiday. But this audiobook collects three other novellas that he wrote for Christmas.
The first one, The Cricket on the Hearth, concerns a wealthy miser named Tackleton who nearly destroys two families before he’s redeemed by the holiday spirit. The Battle of Life concerns the romantic heartbreaks of two sisters in an English village, but ends happily with a final surprise. And in The Haunted Man, a chemistry teacher meets a ghost who promises to rid him of all his unhappy memories. He takes up the offer without understanding the consequences.
In performances laced with tenderness and feeling, Donada Peters pays homage to the yuletide feeling in these Christmas classics.

Great Stories
The reading was excellent! There is an echo in the sound, but the reader is still wonderful quality and not like some readers you encounter with audiobooks. The stories were not ones I was familiar with, but they reminded me of A Christmas Carol and it was a good listen.

Recording not the best
The stories are brilliant, the narration is excellent, but the recording is poor. You can hear other voices and noise in the background which is disturbing and takes away from the book. It's a shame because otherwise it would merit 5 stars.

Just not quite as good as the novels
Great performance but the old recording has persistent echos and background noise. The stories are ok but not really more than Dickens trying out characters and themes for the novels.

great stories but audio is aweful!
these are three great dickens stories absolutely ruined by the worst audio i have heard. a good deal of whitenoise almost as audible as the sound makes it unlistenable!
