About this listen

One woman. One Great Dane. And a zombie above the rest.

Jane Finch wishes her problems ended with a bad commute and no coffee. But when she and her beloved Great Dane, Schrodinger, emerge from a locked room they discover a city changed for the undead.

Zombies are everywhere. Some are endlessly cycling through their last actions, others have turned feral—and hungry. Jane and Schroddie's best chance for survival? Reaching her parents' bunker on the city's north shore.

Not an easy commute on foot—when surrounded by zombies.

Dodging stray bullets and feral zombies is one thing. But soon Jane realizes one of the zombies is following her. Built like a tank, silent as the grave, his attention never wavers. Wherever she goes, he's there. If she hides, he finds her. There's no fighting him, no escape.

He's not like the others—and he might be Jane's only hope for survival.

Contains mature themes.

overall, pretty good start.

First the the audible version gets 3 stars for the narrator, while she wasn't terrible, I did not like the dog or feral sounds. So I will continue with the kindle version of this series not the audio. The male narrator at the end was great. The story overall was good not great, the female lead made a few choices that were questionable and while I liked Schrodie as her companion, the constant references to dog training and being a behaviourist were tiresome. I can't say I didn't like the female lead completely but she got on my nerves at certain points. Hopefully she improves in the next book and I do want to see how this trilogy ends.

Quick easy listen

I am a fan of zombie and eotwawki fiction but sometimes one needs a bit of a vacay from more horrific books. This was a quick entertaining listen that drew me in to buy the series before ending this book. Good narration and anything with a great animal sidekick is a plus.

Okay story, annoying dog sounds.

Perhaps I didn't notice that this is a YA book? The story is good not great. Performing the dog's noises was distracting & became annoying. I suppose the narrator did a fair job of it, but I definitely didn't care for it. I bought the first 2 books in this series together as part of a deal so I'll try to listen to the next one, but not beyond that.

A Girl And Her Dog...Trying To Survive

Both author and performers are new to me and because I enjoyed this title so well I feel like I discovered a title I would have missed because it is something I normally wouldn't read/listen to. But let's be honest: this story wouldn't have worked if the MFC hadn't been a professional dog trainer and she went on this harrowing journey with a well trained dog. Also, Freya was really good with her dog sounds so this added to the richness of the story. I am glad that we heard from Grey at the end, looking forward to continuing this series!

4 starz - I would listen again

Such a fun series.

I’ve read the books, and couldn’t wait to hear it on audible. I think the narrators did a good job. Can’t wait for the other two books to be added to Audible.

Pretty good

This was an ok zombie book. The only issue I have is the dog sounds the narrator had to make. I mean i would be into the story and then the narrator would have to make a dog noise and I was thrown off and reminded that this was just a silly story. I will look out for the second and third part.

Not a bad storyline but

The narrator making the dog noises is really annoying starts to grate on the nerves.
also there's Mic noises in the background or speaker issues.
If I could have gotten past those things I might have been able to give a higher rating

Is this a book or an episode of Sooby-Do?

Why? Why on earth would an author fill the pages of a manuscript with dog sounds? Look, I make an effort to read/listen to self published authors. Usually, the works fall somewhere between bad and good. This story has good legs under it but the author ruins it with all the dog grunts, growls, barks and rumbles. I swear, I’m thinking Hanna-Barberra might have some copyright issues here. She even makes the dog a Great Dane! It’s Scooby Do. Clean up the language and it would be a great book for an early teen reader. Which is my second issue. Is this a book for an immature adult or a mature kid? Third issue is the cover. I truly wish Amazon/Audible would crack down on authors proclaiming themselves as USA Today Best Selling Authors. I don’t believe that for a minute. I’d like to know the date when this author hit USA Today’s Top 100 list. I won’t be reading the rest of the series. So, trying to end on a positive note, I’ll say it is a mercifully short listen. Under six hours.
