Publisher's summary

Thoughtful Theism: Redeeming Reason in an Irrational Age is more than a defense of the existence of God. It is an attempt to remind us that belief in God is at its root rational - despite the evidence offered by many atheists and the irrational expressions presented by some theists themselves.

Drawing from years of experience as a priest and a teacher of philosophy, Fr. Younan presents the fallacies that often accompany thinking about a concept as difficult as God. With clarity and humor, he presents the "Five Ways" of Aquinas, discusses the big bang and evolution, the problem of evil, morality, and the complexities and abuses of religion.

Must read for theists and atheists

This book was well written, he quotes all the mainstream atheists from Dawkins , to Hitchens , Sam Harris , Dennet, Russel and more and shows there misunderstanding of certain theist arguments.

I think every believer and non believer should read this book to understand their position better and change depending on where the facts lead.

This book is great because it’s a short read and yet packed with a lot of info without becoming boring which can happen when reading books of this nature

I will definitely comeback to this book and listen to it again

Answers all doubts about God’s existence

This is not an ‘easy’ listen the first time through, but it is extremely clear, well organized, and attention grabbing. I’ve now listened to this book multiple times (often audiobooks are my background music), and the proofs and concepts are easier for me to follow -as well as understand more fully- each time.

The author is honest and direct, asking ALL the difficult questions and answering ALL questions clearly, even when the theistic answer sounds weak. He’s also funny, which helps a lot to get through a book like this.

This book does not seek to prove the existence of a personal, religious, prayer-answering God. This book ONLY seeks to prove that a god must exist.

My favorite parts of this book were all the counter arguments against theism. The author states that he read 20+ books (by new atheists, agnostics, etc.) while writing this book, and after seeing the amount of people and arguments he quotes, I believe him. The best atheistic arguments -from today’s best thinkers- do not stand up to the best theistic arguments AT ALL. I was shocked how easily dismantled most of the counter arguments were, and do not have the words to describe how inadequate and, frankly, intellectually dishonest some arguments were. Of the BEST thinkers.

As a religious, faithful person, this book has reaffirmed my rational belief in God, and I am extremely grateful.

Good listening

Good book, probably not going to transform the non believer. I don't believe it dug deep enough into their logic to really contrast the two differing perspectives. great for a pondering believer, evangelist. or missionary
