About this listen

Inspired by the recent wave of activism led by young people fighting for racial justice, civil rights icon Ruby Bridges - who, at the age of 6, was the first Black child to integrate an all-White elementary school in New Orleans - shares her story and offers a powerful call to action with this elegant audiobook.

Written as a letter from civil rights activist and icon Ruby Bridges to the listener, This Is Your Time is both a recounting of Ruby's experience as a child who had no choice but to be escorted to class by federal marshals when she was chosen as one of the first Black students to integrate New Orleans' all-White public school system and an appeal to generations to come to effect change.

Ruby's honest and impassioned words, imbued with love and grace, serve as a moving reminder that "what can inspire tomorrow often lies in our past". This Is Your Time will electrify people of all ages as the struggle for liberty and justice for all continues and the powerful legacy of Ruby Bridges endures.

"Powerful....Bridges’ hopeful words, her faith born of experience, are soothing and encouraging in this time of unrest and uncertainty." (Kirkus Reviews, starred review)

“Ruby experienced unimaginable racial hatred, lost her oldest son to random violence, and still advocates for positive change. Kids will relate to Ruby's stories on many levels and be inspired by the difference one little girl made. A profoundly moving book.” (Booklist, starred review)

“Timely, powerful, and full of hope. This missive of truth, spoken by a true American hero, deserves a place in all libraries.” (School Library Journal, starred review)

Civil Rights Movement

Loved it! I was born Jan 1959 so I lived during the time of desegregation and the civil rights movement.I was one of the first black students to help desegregate the school system in Baker LA. I also helped to desegregate the nursing profession. When I graduated from Southeastern LA University with BS in Nursing, there were very few African Americian Registered Nurses!I also experienced the atmosphere of racism also during that time;thus I can identify with Ms Ruby Bridges feeling of being a young child living in the segregated south. Very well done

There is absolutely no hate coming from this narrative. Only truth told with love and without bias. Please stop fearing the truth and thinking every black narrative is from a place of hate. Most of it isn't. This is American History. Stop being afraid of it. Take off your rose colored glasses. Don't raise clueless children. This is a very well written letter to children from Ruby Bridges of her experience. It was written for their understanding. And as a former educator it's a most excellent narrative. Listen to eat with your child and be there to truthfully answer their questions.

13 minutes?

I suspect you will have a lot of complaints for selling this as a book, when it is not even a short story. It would be a good children’s book with pictures, but I definitely would not have used my credit for this if I had seen the time. The build up made it sound like a recounting of that first year of her schooling. Sad that it did not.

this is not a book!

It's 13 minutes long! I guess I should've seen that, but I heard Ruby interviewed on Trevor Noah and was so excited to hear her story that i hurriedly bought it. I'm disappointed in Ruby and in Audible.
