About this listen

Getting Ahead Ain’t Easy.

There’s a fine line between quirky and crazy. How do you know when you’ve crossed it?

Everybody’s got their coping mechanisms. Val Fremden is no exception. But when her longtime boyfriend Tom Foreman takes off without even saying goodbye—well, that’s just the kind of thing that can make a good woman go bad.

Out to track down Tom or die trying, everyone Val meets seems like a potential suspect. Especially her new coworker, Gary. Ever since he showed up, women around town have begun disappearing. And the macabre clues left behind at each woman’s last known address keep Val on the run like a chicken with its head cut off.

On the trail of a potential serial killer, Val must keep a cool head and follow the clues. Will the weird and wacky chain of events that follows lead her to Tom, or send her over the edge? It’s gonna take an ex-Vegas showgirl, a Florida good ol’ boy, and an attorney of questionable stature to find out.

Come join the fun in this hilarious “could only happen in Florida” mystery romp. It’s the feel-good escape you’ve been searching for!

Crochet or knitting?

Everything was great, but you need to research your subject before using it. Crochet is done with a hook and knitting is done with needles and different terms are used.

Where did the ending come from?

I’m an avid Margaret Lashey fan, however this book missed the boat in my opinion. Everything was fine not great but fine- until the climax point when I am afraid I just did see the connection. It’s kind of like she was really trying to surprise us as readers to something we couldn’t have guessed. Well she surprised me alright, with an absolutely disappointing end, that just didn’t seem to fit. I still enjoy reading Margaret Lasheys book’s but hope the next one is all from the same story line.

Very bad, not at all like her previous books

I listened to all of her books in the previous series and also really love Sarah Pesek narration. The previous books helped me when I could not sleep. So I was excited when these new titles came out. It is so disappointing but these seem to be actually written by AI.

Not only the various expressions repeat hundreds of times through the books, but the story lines and characters are disjointed. I also missed the depth of the previous characters. Also, Val Fremden at her whiniest pretty much ruins these 2 books. How much bad luck can one have and how cowardly and meek can she get?

Repeated expressions like: I nearly gasped; My nose wrinkled; her eyebrows touched her hairline, etc are what give it away that either this author became extremely lazy or just used chatbot.
