Acerca de esta escucha

Escaping an unhappy marriage and an unsatisfactory job, Cassie Holloway moves to the little NSW coastal town of Whitby Point. Here she meets the Aquino family, whose fishing business was founded by their ancestor, Giuseppe, an immigrant Italian, some ninety years before. Life for Cassie on the south west coast is sweet as she sets up a successful restaurant and falls in love with Giuseppe's great grandson Michael. But when the family patriarch dies, a devastating family secret is revealed which threatens to destroy her dreams. Cassie's future happiness now rests with her quest for the truth.

This book was a wonderful journey, through history and across the globe. The story that is weaved between the different timelines was fascinating.
The high pitched voice of Cassy was a bit much at times.

Well weaved story with many fascinating turns

The writer engross you in the colourful adventure of Giuseppe, a very likeable Italian migrant who ventured out from his small island hometown to Australia. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the story is actually not centred only on Cassie's side but Joe also played a crucial role. In my opinion Joe's story was more interesting than Cassie's (though it's definitely nice to read both).

Rich and believeable story

Where does The Winter Sea rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Amongst the best, I'm sure I will listen to it again

What did you like best about this story?

The overall story content and interesting characters

Would you be willing to try another one of Kate Hood’s performances?

Perhaps

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Pretty well

Any additional comments?

I really loved this story, although a little over descriptive at times. The Narrator is too sickly sweet for my liking.

Beautiful and thoroughly engrossing

I disliked the voices, I found them grating and unconvincing. I felt they distracted from the storyline.

It was not at all what I expected but I enjoyed the story

I wanted to like this book and reading, The beginning was an engaging immigrant tale. However, by the time it got into the World War II part of the story, the characters felt flat and whiny. I didn’t care about them and disliked than even more because of the sexist interpretation of the protagonist’s voice, and the smarmy male voices. The book cries out for a better editor and a different reader.

Historical Story with Cliche Characters Read in Smarmy Irritating Voices

Struggled through the book - partly narration partly story. The voice of Cassy so irritating. The 'interesting' (read irritating) tidbits around fishing and basically everything else was not making the story more interesting but rather patronising. Not worth a credit.

Argh!
