About this listen

Wishing for change....

Five years of widowhood and the imminent marriage of her son as well as her daughter nearing college age have left Josephine Prescott at loose ends. When a golden-haired rogue, 13 years her junior, propositions her, she immediately dismisses him. She’s a proper Victorian lady after all, yet a lady can only protest so much.

Playing for pleasure....

Benedict Fitzgerald, talented pianist and maestro, wants a new lover and Josephine is ripe for seduction. The age difference intrigues him as does her willingness for sexual adventure, and as the relationship deepens, it plays out like the notes in a beautiful waltz.

Thwarted by circumstance....

Their busy lives don’t lead to the scandalous liaison either of them envisioned, and Benedict doesn't count on being so captivated by Josie, or that the stunning widow would embody his musical muse. Stolen moments together, even quicker sexual trysts don’t satisfy. They both want more, but gossip and familial interests oppose their possible match.

Bound by love....

Will their relationship end in a discordant disaster or culminate as a pleasing symphony? Only they can decide.

Its a Hit!

Full of all the good things that make this a really enjoyable story, I loved every moment of this audiobook.
There is plenty of good humor, suspense, loving and romancing, and it is well written and fast paced. All of this story is put together so well that I was happily entertained and very eager to keep on listening till the very end. In fact, it is the kind of story that I wish could have continued on and on.
I will definitely be reading or listening to more from this author!
Anneliese Rennie is a new narrator to me and I enjoyed her unusual sounding voice and accent which she manages to change to fit each of the characters and kept me interested with her enthusiastic rendition.
Great teamwork between the author, Sandra Sookoo and the narrator Anneliese Rennie.
I requested and listened to the audiobook version and this is me voluntary and unbiased review of it.

Good story. Great narration

The premise of an older woman and a younger man is what intrigued me about this book. Josie is a widow who meets Benedict, a music maestro five years younger than she is at a party. Their attraction is immediate but the constraints of society might be their undoing. It’s a great regency plot and I enjoyed it.
The narration was very good. Ms Rennie captures the characters and the period very well.

Narration Wasn't Suited for the Story

When I applied to review this book, (my review is voluntarily being exchanged for a copy of the work) I thought that I would be okay with the whole younger man/older woman trope, I just don't think this book did it much justice. I found the heroine to be annoying, and the hero to be creepy. I don't think this would have been the case had I physically read this book because upon reflection I don't think that the narrator was suited for this story.

I'm not sure who makes the decisions in production with narration, so I'm not blaming anyone, I just don't feel like this narrator was suited for the book. She was a very talented narrator, but half of an audiobook is the narration and this one just didn't cut it. It made the characters come off as creepy and I didn't like the southern accent. Overall, 2.5 stars.

A Maestro of an audio

This is my first listen for both the author and narrator. This is a fast pace audio . It touches a subject that is a no no on in the time period. The subject is a historical listen . There is suspense. This shows what loves is all about. The male characters is a Maestro and a younger man who is interested in having a love affair with a older woman.

The narrator Annalise Rennie was good . She did all the characters voices great . Her voice is strong and smooth

A most entertaining story

I did enjoy this very much. Josie is a widow and is longing for an adventure. She sure is a sassy lady and not afraid to go along with her desires. Benedict is a much younger man and has quite a reputation with the ladies. Benedict does seem to be quite mature for his age in some respects. Could what starts as a wager develop into something more and would the age gap make a difference? The narrator, Annaliese Rennie, has such an easy voice to listen to, the story just flowed. Annaliese really brought the characters to life .

An older widow and a younger man find love in Victorian times.

An unusual romance for me. A older widow and a Maestro 13 years her junior I the Victorian era was taboo. Can they fight the societal issues to curb their burgeoning romance? You’ll have to read/listen to find out. I loved this story by Sandra Sookoo. I didn’t care for the narration, especially the attempt at the male voice. A good story that had me listening into early in the morning. I recommend this audiobook. I received this copy from the author and am voluntarily reviewing.

Interesting and Original Historical Romance

This was my first Sandra Sookoo's book. This is an original Historical Romance, between a widow/older woman, and a maestro/younger man. Josephine and Benedict's story is interesting. They share an instant attraction, but their relationship isn't easy accepted by the Victorian Society. This was a fun, sexy, and entertaining listen. Anneliese Rennie did a good narration, and all characters were easy to distinguish. She has a great voice, but her male voice wasn't really convincing. I received this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily written this review.
