About this listen
“It’s a dangerous time for a Witch.”
The scars left behind by the Blood Massacre of 1888 still run deep through the Witches of Britain a hundred and thirty-five years later. Queen Mara, who led the Witches to victory on that harrowing night, must once again face her old enemy as well as a mysterious group of rebels with seemingly no motive. Tired and ready to retire, Queen Mara wants nothing more than to pass the baton on to her only living heir...
...too bad Lumen doesn’t want to be Queen.
With only a few weeks left until she turns twenty-one and must officially claim the title of Heir to the Blood Crown, Lumen is determined to spend her last moments of freedom doing what she loves best – sneaking out to walk among mortals and getting outrageously drunk at the upcoming Samhain Ball. Fate has a different idea. As a night of debauchery drags on, Lumen is embroiled in a mystery that will rewrite history, shed light on the recent attacks on Witches, and send her on a path to discover the true culprit behind her parents’ murders.
A hundred and thirty-five years in the past, two brothers are the only reason that the ignorant Witches of Gallows End haven’t been slayed in their entirety. Though the Grave brothers’ names may never make it into the history books, that doesn’t mean they’ll be entirely forgotten.

Story
Rowan is stuck. Her dream of becoming a Hollywood screenwriter is stalled, and so she and her novelist fiancé, Seth, retreat to an isolated cabin in the Adirondacks to hopefully get out of their creative ruts. There, Rowan finds herself drawn into a mysterious and unsettling story—that of socialite-turned-feminist-crusader Eddie Callaway, who vanished in these same woods the summer of 1975 and was never heard from again. A handbook found in the abandoned ruins of the Callaway camp gives Rowan glimpses into who Eddie was.

A Witty Must Read
I love how even tho the MC is a witch she can't just magic her way out of everything and even knows what she is and isn't capable of doing with her own magical abilities. The world is beautifully written, and I can't wait to see what the next book in the series has to offer. This book made me laugh so much with the witty comments. Wasn't a fan of the matting trope but the characters personalities made up for it a little.
This books is a lot like The Ruby Red trilogy but with witches and vampires and other supernatural creatures.

Storyline
A great book could not put it down. It kept me from the beginning to the end. I thought that that the characters could have been talked about more but you get so invested into the main characters that it kind of makes it all work out. This book is so worth 5 stars easily.

OUTSTANDING!!!
The audiobook had me hooked from beginning to end. It was fast paced and action-packed with a wonderful cast of characters and storyline. There were twists turns, deception, betrayal and love. Lumen is a witch princess who will soon be turning twenty-one. At this point she will be named as the next queen. There is even time travel for Lumen. This is when her world as she knew it turns upside down. Narrator Jane Wing brought this book to life. I cannot wait for book 2.

Cozy adventure
I’m not one to read romantacy, but I picked this up hoping to cozy up inside the fantasy world with the royal witches and vampires and it did not disappoint me. Oh I forgot to say, Wazzup
We met our girl Lumen, her sisters by bond and her badass grandma who happens to be the Queen of witches in modern time. Then we got thrown back in time and met the gorgeous Grave Brothers, who happen to be vampire slayers and they bring us a long time to a wild, mossy and ale - filled adventure.
The narrator did a fantastic job with the storytelling, bringing this book to life. I will definitely recommend this book to those who enjoy cozy fantasy, but not to those seeking adult fantasy. I can’t wait to read the next book!

Witches and Vampires, Oh My!
Lumen is a witch on the cusp of her 21st birthday poised to begin her training to be queen. She hides from all what her witch gift is, and it gets her transported 135 years in the past. Book starts off slow, but once it picks up, it moves quickly to the end, which, of course, is a cliffhanger. Well written and the narrator was very good. Will be waiting for book 2.

Superb Narrator!
I really enjoyed listening to this. It's a rich and intricate story which weaves a great tale of the lives of these witches, young and old. The story gently unfolds the history that led the Witches of Gallows End to where they are now. Essentially, still fighting an enemy of old. There are rich characters and great descriptive scenes where there's no holding back! The author does a brilliant job of going into character as the various characters and definitely brings it to life!

Interesting book
Story was interesting and the powers of the MC were also unique. Some parts of the story didn't make sense to me, but I chalk it to the difference in vocabulary between US English and UK English.
Narrator did a good job overall. Though I do think the male characters would have had a bit more personality with a male narrator. (That's just my opinion though)
