About this listen

In the third book of The Human Chronicles Saga, ex-Navy SEAL Adam Cain - a human lost in a galaxy of deadly alien empires - fights desperately to return to Earth, only to find that his homecoming is anything but warm.

In the aftermath of a devastating attack on the Earth, Adam learns that the humans have been played for fools by the evil Klin race. Now he has two enemies to fight: the Juireans and the Klin. Yet as before, the aliens don't realize what trouble they're in. Now they're up against an entire planet of human supermen! Pity their weak and fragile bodies. Adam Cain - as well as the entire human race - is out for revenge!

This epic space opera saga is reminiscent of the Golden Age of Science Fiction, full of exotic aliens, fantastic space battles, galactic empires, and a goal as large as the human spirit. Fans of science-fiction space opera and military science-fiction have raved about the series, which includes 23 books with more to come.

Fast-paced and humorous, The War of Pawns will have you laughing and fist-pumping all the way through. This is a story of scope and adventure.

Narrator changed multiple voices

The narrator felt it necessary to completely change how some characters sound, including the two most important human characters. I don't understand why, but it really pulled me out of the story for awhile after getting used to them in the previous two books. This should absolutely never be done in the middle of a series.

Overall a solid story, but people should be prepared for this change.

Good story but the voice acting...

I had no issue with the story I really enjoyed it. The voice acting especially for Adam was really quite bad. It was like Jeff Spicolli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High was playing Adam. The 1st book had Adams voice perfect.

Why??

It definitely a good book and I was totally inthralled and just wanting to know what happened next. Then for some bone head reason Atom one of the main characters turns in to some idiot surfer dude, I was completely lost for a second before I figured out what they did. The whole story kinda changed after that it got a bit tougher to take the story seriously at that point

Bad Narration

Story is ok but narrator is getting worse with each book. Didn’t use the same voice for Adam, the main character as previous 2 books, and they were bad but at least consistent. Almost couldn’t finish.

I tried but just can't continue...

The story has been pretty good as long as you ignore the dumbest Navy Seal which makes perfect sense since he's a 1980's surfer dude from California and the changing of the terrorists voice to suddenly become French!?! Chapter 15 killed it for me!

Character voices are just awful

I liked reading this series a while back. It's fun sci-fi junk food. That being said, I feel like the narrator purposefully chose voices unfit for the characters he was portraying. Adam Cain started sounding like someone mocking a surfer dude in this installment. The love interest has a voice designed to infuriate southerners, and most military characters speak like cartoon cavemen. I will not be purchasing the rest of this series.

Narrator

The narrator may be the same for all the books, but he completely changed several of his voices in this book compared to the first two, and it’s not good.

Narrator changed main character voices

After being a Chad caricature in the first two books Adam suddenly becomes a surfer dude in this one. And Rhiad Terrazi goes from a scratchy voiced Lebanese terrorist to a Frenchman inexplicably.

The character voices weren’t great in the first two books but they somehow got even WORSE in this one.

Good story, very bad performance.

I think everybody can agree that T. R. Harris is pretty good science-fiction writer.
This story had an interesting premise and I got through the first two books pretty easily even though the performance was not great. My big complaint now, is the fact that here in book 3 the narrator decided to change up the characters voices. I know this has been said in other reviews, but it’s a fact. The main character Adam Kane now sounds like a California Surfin Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Cowabunga dude and the main bad guy from the first two books who is Lebanese is now a Frenchman. Book 3 seems like all of the characters voices are just so over the top, it has become excruciatingly painful to listen to. And unfortunately, I am stopping this one with 7.5 hours left.

Maybe being a voice actor isn’t for everybody. I could only imagine how good this book would be if it had been narrated by Mark Boyette, Bronson, Pincho, or RC Bray, just to name a few.

not good narrator

got the first few books for free only reason I'm listening to them as they were free will not be spending money on any of the other books the narrator change of voices on two main characters. and made the Arab terrorist guy sound French and the main character sounds like a doofus surfer dude not a kick-ass SEAL team six Navy guy that's an insult for the seals
