About this listen

After his first grisly crime, Harvey Louis Carignan beat a death sentence and continued to manipulate, rape, and bludgeon women to death - using want ads to lure his young female victims. And time after time, justice was thwarted by a killer whose twisted legal genius was matched only by his sick savagery. Here, complete with the testimony of women who suffered his unspeakable sexual abuses and barely escaped with their lives and of the police who at last put him behind bars, is one of the most shattering and thought-provoking true-crime stories of our time.

A Beast of a Man!

I added this one to my library’s true crime collection and it was pretty good. An up close look at a man with quite an unfortunate past growing up, but his bitterness led to a life of pure evil. Be warned that this contains some very troubling graphic material involved with the crimes.

One thing that was odd: The title. I thought the perp’s MO in this book would be to place want ads as a means to offend. But there were very few of these, I think just one. The narration was fine, not great, but not terrible as some have mentioned. I’ve heard worse!

Classic Ann Rule

Ann Rule always had a way of telling disturbing stories with straightforward skill and respect for the victims. The cruelty of this douchebag is outlined with clarity and avoids the salacious detail that would make one ashamed to be caught reading it. The narrator bothered me at first with his overly measured tone, but I got used to it and had no problem with it by chapter two. Great listen if you like true crime.

Very Intriguing Story

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. it was really amazing to see the facts laid out and how the violence of the crimes played out.... I was not a huge fan of this narrator, but the overall story was engaging.

writing great

Excellent writing and detailed account, narrator rather annoying. ..exaggerated speech...as though he thought he were on stage auditioning. I really enjoy Ann Rule's work.

Interesting

The story interesting and woven together very well. The narrator sounded like a computer voice. At times it was hard to focus on the story because the narrator sounded so mechanical / robotic.

Story good but…

The narrator sounds stilted and robotic. There should be more of a flow. Story is Ann Rule so they are always good
