'Michael Connelly is a powerhouse, an unstoppable force in crime fiction. The Waiting is proof he is at the top of his game."
MICK HERRON, #1 bestselling author of SLOW HORSES

IN COLD CASES,
IT'S NOT THE HOPE THAT KILLS YOU.
IT'S THE WAITING.

LAPD Detective Renée Ballard gets a DNA hit in a case that has gone unsolved for twenty years. A recently arrested man is genetically related to a serial rapist who terrorised the city of angels.

But when the relative is revealed, it is the last person you want to accuse unless the evidence is watertight...

With the help of the newest volunteer to the cold case unit - patrol officer Maddie Bosch, Harry's daughter - Ballard finally has another badge on the team. But Maddie has an ulterior motive for getting access to the city's library of souls.

Because some crimes have been waiting to be solved longer than others...

An electrifying and authoritative thriller from one of the greatest crime writers of all-time - the author behind Amazon Prime's Bosch and Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer.

Gripping

Another excellent Bosch/Ballard story with seamless interaction between characters, performed brilliantly by all voice actors. I am beginning to like Ballard almost as much as I like Bosch. Almost.

Another excellent Bosch/Ballard story

If you enjoy getting completely immersed in a story, Connelly is for you. I listened to everything he writes, and it just doesn’t get any better, period. He plunks you into the Bosch/Ballard universe, and everything else fades away until the conclusion (which also leaves you with that tantalizing need for the next book). He knows his subject better than anyone—the process, the gritty realism, the politics and power plays. His books move seamlessly to the screen, so be sure not to miss the entire Bosch and Lincoln Lawyer series!

Christine Lakin, Madison Lintz and Titus Welliver were outstanding with the delivery of the story

It doesn’t get any better than Michael Connelly!

Such an intriguing beginning!! Such an easy listen - really dislike it when there are too many characters. Ballard is also very believable!! Congrats to the narration - also very believable!!

Kept my interest right until the end!

The only complaint is that Connelly didn’t give us enough Harry time, pity for a long lover of Bosch.

Great story

I’ve read all of Michael’s books, but I found the journey into Ballard and the flowering of Maddie was quite captivating. The performances were so aurally compelling made a great narrative. Thanks to you all. Sublime

Character, character, character…

Great plot and a very satisfying tying up of many loose ends but still leaving enough to make you want more

The pace is just perfect

I love Bosch and I love the Ballard series but there’s a couple of things with this book that stood out to me for negative reasons. The first is the fact that Ballard rang the fbi agent back to apologise for being angry with him when she had EVERY RIGHT to be angry with him! Connelly would you have EVER had a male protagonist reach out to a female character (or a male for that matter) to apologise for being angry with them when their reasoning is completely legitimate?? Never has Bosch or Mickey Haller done that, why should a female protagonist?? Also, Colleen was always unnecessarily poorly treated and her death seemed more like Connelly didn’t know what else to do with a hard working, older woman who gave up her time for free and cared about what she did, so he killed her off. I have always noticed his subtle (and not so subtle) misogynism, but this was the first time I was compelled to bring notice to it because it was just so sickening in this story!

Do better Connelly!

Mixing 3 different cases into one book doesnt work for me at all.
As If the black Dahlia case isnt worth one book of its own. It seems this isnt written by Connelly at all, at least one major annoyance is gone for the series ...

Worst Connelly

I've read everything since the first Harry Bosch book The Black Echo. I've loved them all, but this book brought me no joy. I would not even recommend it to my worst enemy.

It was not worth the wait....
