About this listen

An inquisitive polar bear named Duane befriends an array of animals as he discovers where he belongs in this charming classic-in-the making.

In the very, very far North, past the cold, cold ocean and just below the hill that looks like a baby whale, you'll find Duane and his friends.

Duane is a sweet and curious young bear who makes friends with everyone he meets - whether they're bossy, like Major Puff the puffin, or a bit vain, like Handsome the musk ox, or very, very shy, like Boo the caribou. For these arctic friends, every day is a new adventure!

Oh this was delightful! My boys 7 and 8 read this aloud during winter months and it was just what we needed. The writing is witty and the story opened so many conversations about navigating friendships and social situations. This dialog was especially helpful for my autistic son.

Both Dan Bar-el and Tim Campbell shine with ‘The Very, Very Far North’. Our family of two forty year olds, a seven year old and a three, turned four, year old love both the hardback with its illustrations and this wonderful recording.

I read it to my Montessori Primary Afternooners, the four through six year olds who no longer nap, and they loved it. As we went on the children all developed favourite characters. The language is rich, the characters delightful, the experiences relatable. To top it all off, both the writing and the acting are dryly funny.

We hope to see the sequel here in Audible as soon as Tim Campbell is ready!

An Excellent Story, Excellently Told, and Worthy of Repeat Listenings

Such a delightfully adorable chapter book! Completely character driven with a motley crew of animals who show readers how to be a good friend even with personalities vastly different than your own.

Adults who grew up enthralled with the Hundred Acre Woods will love sharing the Very, Very Far North with their young readers today—Duane the Polar Bear will be as beloved as Winnie the Pooh is his own time.

Also, one of my favorite narrators I’ve listened to—superb job!

Delightfully Adorable

This book is good for the whole family. We listen to it with my three sons who are ages five, eight, and 10. They all enjoyed the book. I think it was full of dry humor which appealed to the children. The narrator was clever and had a good strong voice. All in all a great pick!

A delight for the whole family
