About this listen

From New York Times best-selling author Jayne Ann Krentz comes a gripping new romantic suspense trilogy fraught with danger and enigma.

Decades ago in the small town of Fogg Lake, The Incident occurred: an explosion in the cave system that released unknown gases. The residents slept for two days. When they woke up they discovered that things had changed - they had changed. Some started having visions. Others heard ominous voices. And then, scientists from a mysterious government agency arrived. Determined not to become research subjects of strange experiments, the residents of Fogg Lake blamed their "hallucinations" on food poisoning, and the story worked. But now it has become apparent that the eerie effects of The Incident are showing up in the descendants of Fogg Lake....

Catalina Lark and Olivia LeClair, best friends and co-owners of an investigation firm in Seattle, use what they call their "other sight" to help solve cases. When Olivia suddenly vanishes one night, Cat frantically begins the search for her friend. No one takes the disappearance seriously except Slater Arganbright, an agent from a shadowy organization known only as the Foundation, who shows up at her firm with a cryptic warning.

A ruthless killer is hunting the only witnesses to a murder that occurred in the Fogg Lake caves 15 years ago - Catalina and Olivia. And someone intends to make both women vanish.

Fogg Lake Citizens Experience Life Changing Event

An interesting story about two women who witnessed a murder in the caves near their home town of Fogg Lake when they were 15 years old. No one believed them. Now 15 years later there is a kidnapping of one of the women. This story focuses on finding the kidnappers and testing the abilities of Catarina and Olivia and The Foundation, the organization that oversees events of individuals with paranormal abilities. Olivia is kidnapped. Catarina is determined to find out what happened. The Foundation gets involves and sends Slater, the nephew of the two top investigators, to Seattle to find out what is going on. He and Catarina team up and try to track down who took Olivia. He is convinced it has to do with what happened 15 years ago at Fogg Lake. As is expected, Catarina and Slater are attracted to each other but this is not what drives the story. The mystery of Olivia’s disappearance and who took her is the main story. It is well written and a light read. I have read other books by Krentz and enjoyed them all. This is the first in a new series so we shall see how things develop. I listened in Audible and the narrator, Sandra Michelle, did an excellent job.

Can never go wrong with a JAK book!

Good strong storyline. Very intriguing to see the series unfold with future novels. I just wish we had a different narrator. she sounded like she was reading a porn novel. She was very flat in her delivery.

Predictable

i found the performance too slow. I upped the speed to 1.05 and would have gone higher except it changed the tone of the narration if I did. But the voices and expressions met expectations.

As for the story, it was not up to JAK standards. normally the bad guy motivations and reveals are tied into the storyline. Here, at the very end it seemed like she realized that she needed to being out some fact that tied into the next book and kept adding on. Maybe reading it would have been different but via audio there were three separate spots the book could have ended and felt complete. I hope it is just because she was setting up a "new world" and the next in series will be more cohesive.

For those of you who read all three pen names, the character issues become repetitive. Lost in the caverns of strong energy--similar to the Rainshadow island books. liquid drug that warps your paranormal senses- Zinnia. Being badly "psi-burned" in a lab accident and concerned about going mad-- you get the point. Some of it is to be expected since it is across three timelines but the same drama in each is a little much.

Regardless, it was entertaining story and has opened up a new series. it will be interesting to see if she ties this into her other books and pen names.

enjoyed

enjoyed listening to this story. Mr. Krentz has all three of her book lines in this story. Amanda Quick, Jayne Castle. I have read most if not all her book. In this one she has put all the elements in. It was good, but really nothing new. Bad guys good guys, strong main man, good spunky female, with a side kick. will get the next ones of course, Ms. Krentz is a must to buy. favorite book by her, “All Night Long"

Nice listen.

I actually liked the narration. Is nice to hear a new voice. Story was typical of this author. If you like her other books you will enjoy this one. I look forward to more in the series.

GREAT READ

I really love this book I love the characters they were written out beautifully I would love it if there was a book 2. I love the way that the characters interact with each other. What I don't understand is why Catalina continually blamed Victor for her problems, she is the one that called the police not him, I can understand why she blamed Roger. But I still enjoy the book.

In par with her other series.

Classic Krentz/Castle/Quick book you either like them or you don’t. Paranormal romance with a lot of similarities from her other series. The main characters could also be cut outs from her other books, with different names. Saying that doesn’t mean I didn’t like the book, in fact it was a decent book (not a reread kind), and I will gladly listen to the next on in the series if it comes on sale. Narrator was okay, I wouldn’t say she was as bad as other reviewers are complaining about.
