About this listen

When Garron of Kersey returns home from the king’s service to claim his title as Baron Wareham, he’s shocked to find Wareham Castle very nearly destroyed by a man called the Black Demon.

According to the last starving servants inside the castle walls, the Black Demon was looking for silver belonging to Garron’s brother Arthur. Among his remaining servants is the enigmatic Merry, the bastard child of the castle’s priest. Garron quickly suspects that she is much more than a servant: She reads and writes and makes lists, just as he does. They work together to bring Wareham back to its former splendor.

But this is only the beginning. Did Arthur have a cache of silver? Who is the Black Demon? And the biggest question of all: Who is Merry?

A good narrator can make or break an audio book

Ann Flosnick should not have been the narrator for this book. Her overly smarmy British accent was wearing on the ears. Any one of a dozen British actresses could have done a much better job of the narration.
The only thing that kept me listening to the end is the fact that Catherine Coulter is one of my favourite authors. Any other books narrated by Ann Flosnick in the future will get a wide pass from me.

Didn't see that coming

I love Catherine Coulter (met her once). The story is a good one. A little light on the details, and a bit implausible plot twist, but I liked the characters. It is the brain candy anyone can enjoy.

Unbelievably Bad

I???ve read every historical romance written by Catherine Coulter and enjoyed them all. BUT, this is the worst book I???ve purchased in a long time. The characters were flat, boring and undeveloped. The story was disjointed and had no flow throughout the book. I was seriously disappointed and could not believe a veteran writer would but out something so poorly written.

Worst. Romance. Ever

This has got to be THE WORST book I've ever read. The saddest part is, the actual story idea was very good and the synopsis sounded really interesting. But when a 5th grader could have written it better, it doesn't matter how good the idea is. I wanted to love this book, I really did, but the characters were so flat and the plot was missing so many details. I almost didn't finish this book. If you're looking for good "historical" romances, try Allison Weir or Philippa Gregory. I wish I hadn't wasted the credit.

Horrible ??? Don???t waste your money!

This book is very disjointed and the narrator???s voice is quite irritating to listen to. Usually I enjoy reading C. Coulter's book but for this one I wish I had read the reviews before I bought it.

Ridiculous

Couldn’t finish. Shallow character development. Zero chemistry between Merry and Garron. Simply boring...and then...it devolved into a silly mix of an inexplicable romance, fantasy, magic potions, mystical symbols, and an abbess/witch. Not long after the bats, crows and shape-shifting, I called it quits. Feared flying monkeys or dragons couldn’t be far behind. Or perhaps a unicorn to save the day?

Very disappointed. Narrator Stinks!

I usually enjoy a Catherine Coulter book when there is nothing more interesting to choose. But this book was so awful I couldn't finish it. The narrator was a chore to listen to, and the story was just bizarre. Total waste of a credit.
