Acerca de esta escucha

Burning pyres, nuns on the run, stirring courage, and comic relief: the Protestant Reformation is a gripping tale, packed with drama. But what motivated the Reformers? And what were they really like?

The Unquenchable Flame is a lively, accessible, and informative introduction to the Reformation by Michael Reeves, bringing to life the movement's most colorful characters: Martin Luther, Ulrich Zwingli, John Calvin, the Puritans, and others.

Experience the book that has been called the absolute best historical introduction to the Reformation. Michael Reeves has written a masterpiece that captures the passion, humor, violence, and world-changing power of the Protestant Reformation. This US edition includes a new foreword by 9 Marks Ministries president Mark Dever.

i am very encouraged by this work. it is down to earth but also faithful to scholarship. the storytelling is excellent but full of balance and insight. Reeves is unapologetically evangelical which is what I wanted but generous in his portrayals of catholic views.

awesome work

An informative and enjoyable review of the reformation, only lacking in the somewhat stiff reading of the narrator.

Great book but narration is lacking

Others here have written much better reviews than I would ever have the time or gifts to write, so let me just say that this was a very entertaining Audible "read". I read this book to get a better understanding of the history of the church, but what I found most meaningful about this book is its central theme of justification through faith alone. Again and again, we are introduced to historical characters like Luther and Calvin whose consciences would not let them rest in their good deeds alone. They were unable to suppress the truth with unrighteousness. God's Spirit was at work in their hearts and their minds, and they could not rest until they found a basis for true reconciliation, and peace with God.

We throw around the term "the gospel" often without thinking these days. The gospel can mean many things, but if it does not at its core mean a foreign righteousness granted to us by nothing else than faith in Christ's perfect completed works, then everything else is meaningless.

This book is a great read if you want to get a better understanding of the history of the church. As well, this book is a fantastic read if your Christian walk has begun to meander, if you feel that you may have become lost somewhere along the way. In short - this book is a great "read" if you desire to once again, understand how the abstract theological concept of justification changed the world during the Reformation, and how this abstract concept can still transform your life, and the topsy-turvy world around us even today.

Justified by Faith Alone

I loved the way he explained each of the characters involved in the Reformation. I understand more why we need to break down doctrine and have people like the author who study long and hard to prove or disprove. It helps with my own personal understanding so I can study the doctrine of each man involved and discern the truth over lies.

Michael Reeves is wonderful at explanation of the Reformation and the players that brought it to light.
