About this listen

The Underdog in American Politics is an original analysis of how the underdog concept applies to the Democratic Party and American politics and culture. In particular, it analyzes how the power of the underdog has shaped, and reflected, the politics of Democrats running for president. From Thomas Jefferson to Barack Obama, the author uses biography, ideology, campaign strategy, and public policies to depict the many different points of contact between Democrats and underdogs. The core values of equality, fairness and non-discrimination are analyzed. The role of sympathy and empathy toward underdogs is also examined.

Karl G. Trautman shares an analysis of Politics

In The Underdog in American Politics, the listener is introduced to the narrator, Karl G. Trautman. This is the first of his audiobooks that I've listened to. He gives an analysis of American politics, and shares his opinions backed up by history and statistics, about the underdog concept in politics. He talks about Presidents and their politics being democrats, from Jefferson to Obama. Why do people vote for the underdog? Why don't they vote for the underdog? And what makes someone the underdog? It is interesting if you are into politics and even if you're not you learn a lot from the history of our Presidents. A tidbit that I know was way back when the democrats and republicans were one party, but then it was separated. When they are bipartisan, it works, and then other times they are at each other throats. With the way politics are today, this is a grand listen, and more people should listen to this book. You might just be surprised what you learn from our history and current political arenas. The Underdog in American Politics on audiobook is a definite listening recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews. I look forward to listening to many more titles by this author.
