This gave me all that I needed or wanted on the history of The Troubles. Was not too long so I didn’t get lost.

Brief but thorough

It isn't a very well written book and offers only a very cursory look at a very complex situation.

Not worth the money

Great summary of the events leading up to and during the Troubles. Unbiased analysis of the respective views of both sides and their reasoning. Wish there was more detail!

Intriguing but short

I wish I had discovered this BEFORE I visited Ireland. This is a very readable history of the Irish-Anglo Catholic-Protestant conflicts over the centuries right up to the 21st century. It happened to add insight into my own family's history and attitudes long after they came to America just before the Potato Famine.

Significant Hustory in a Nutshell

As someone who has studied this time period for well over a year, this is a great tool to get a grasp on the events of this time. This being an introductory book it, of course, does not go into great detail so much self research is to be done to get a full scope of the Troubles. “Those who do not learn history are surely doomed to repeat it.”

An amazing introduction to the Troubles of Northern Ireland

Poorly performed and very dry prose. Reads like a textbook which I guess it is.

Dry as a bone

I found this very informative. Steven Rostance was a fine narrator. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This short book covered the essentials. Nice to listen while on a road trip through the region in question.

Good and concise

it is a good, condensed survey of the troubles. I studied Irish history and the troubles, in depth , in the early 70's. This provided a very good review and follow on to my studies.

The conclusion.

The author falls into the age-old trap of reciting a sectarian (in this case, Republican) one-sided history. He uses several anachronisms about the history of Ireland including supposing Ireland was one nation before the English, called it Great Britian before it's time, ignoring food relief in the Famine, insinuating the Irish Civil War was the British doing and omitting certain embarrassing facts like the IRA trying to ally with the Nazis in WW2. If you want to know Irish history, try to get material that is fair and tells the whole story; this book does not.

Too slanted to be taken seriously
