J.D. McCabe
About this listen
What occurs when the devil assaults your strength and remakes it into a weakness? J.D. “Danny” McCabe lived in a loving relationship with his wife for almost 20 years before the foundations of their marriage, family, and world began to collapse. Their marriage had always been rooted in the belief that trust is necessary in a healthy relationship. Certainly, Erin had always claimed that things wouldn’t, couldn’t work without trust. Yet one day, for reasons Danny could not understand, Erin developed suspicions of his every move. Phone calls, text messages, and work emails were fashioned into proof of infidelity, drug addiction, and a web of lies. She recruited her mom in her efforts, and together they forged the words of family, trust, and honesty into a symbolic hammer and battered him into the ground. Their allegations amassed, twisting reality and ultimately resulting in Danny’s involuntary hospitalization. Danny was forced to the edge and was damn near ready to jump. Then, God intervened. Erin’s shocking revelation, her third gift, lit the blind spots in his relationship that Danny had never before been able to resolve.

Story
A year and a half into our marriage, I found out my husband had been having an affair with a 19-year-old for six months. I filed for divorce and left. Two weeks later I met a man, and we fell madly in love. It was a fairy-tale romance for a month and a half, and he convinced me to join him on a romantic month-long vacation in Italy. Forty-eight hours before we were supposed to get on a plane, he told me he needed to go by himself. I was devastated. So, I had a decision to make. Either stay home and be heartbroken, or go travel Europe for a month by myself.

Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Where does a moderately popular internet star who never leaves her house look for potential suitors? Online. Tinder, Bumble, Match.com, OkCupid - I tried them all. My 31-year-old self clicked and swiped her little heart out, leading to more dates than I could count, and more disappointment than I was prepared for. Maybe you can relate. Maybe you know all too well the perils of modern dating.

Story
On June 9, 2008, the butchered body of Travis Alexander was found in his Mesa, Arizona, home. The grisly nature of his death made instant headlines: With 29 knife wounds, his throat slit, and a gunshot to the head, Travis was left to die. The prime suspect in the case was Alexander's ex-girlfriend, the attractive and soft-spoken Jodi Arias. Though Arias initially said that she was nowhere near the scene of crime, little about this case was as it seemed, and before long she had been caught lying to police. As the investigation progressed, her lies evolved multiple times before finally resting on an appalling claim: She had killed Travis in self-defense.

Wow
What a wild ride this story was! Had me enthralled and couldn’t wait to listen to it more as I crochet. I, as well as Dan I’m sure, wish there could’ve been more closure and answers but real life really doesn’t work like that. Hopefully the truth will all be revealed one day! Thanks for sharing your story!

Wow
It’s crazy everything that happened to you. It’s crazy how you love someone so much you don’t see all the red flags. I pray that you find someone that is healthy and knows how to love. I feel you just can’t blame everything she did on mental illness, at some point we all know right from wrong. You are so strong to have written this book. It’s an amazing story. I feel everyone should read it. I wish you joy, peace, and happiness.

Amazing! No regrets!
This showed up on my FYP on TikTok. I was intrigued but skeptical. I took the plunge and bought it. I am so glad I did. My husbands ex was a narcissist and he was a victim of many of the things that happened to the author just shy of poisoning. The story resonated hard. I wish the author healing and hope.

Dramatic and addicting
It’s absolutely a retelling of a messy divorce BUT it has so much more! The failures of the mental health system, the ability for addicts to hide their addictions, the pain and anguish that kids go through in the distraction of their parents’ marriage. It’s all here. I started this book this morning as I mowed the yard. I can’t stop listening. I’m down to the last few chapters!
Also there’s something to be said for an author to narrate his own book! It definitely has the feel of a friend telling you his story!
