Acerca de esta escucha

When a woman travels to Nigeria to attend the funeral of the father she never knew, she meets her extravagant family for the first time, a new and inspiring love interest, and discovers parts of herself she didn't know were missing, from Jane Igharo, the acclaimed author of Ties That Tether.

Hannah Bailey has never known her father, the Nigerian entrepreneur who had a brief relationship with her White mother. Because of this, Hannah has always felt uncertain about part of her identity. When her father dies, she's invited to Nigeria for the funeral. Though she wants to hate the man who abandoned her, she’s curious about who he was and where he was from. Searching for answers, Hannah boards a plane to Lagos, Nigeria.

In Banana Island, one of Nigeria's most affluent areas, Hannah meets the Jolades, her late father's prestigious family - some who accept her and some who think she doesn't belong. The days leading up to the funeral are chaotic, but Hannah is soon shaped by secrets that unfold, a culture she never thought she would understand or appreciate, and a man who steals her heart and helps her to see herself in a new light.

This was my first book by this author but it won’t be the last. It was a really good light read and the narrator was very talented with the accents and different character voice inflections. Would definitely listen to other stories narrated by them.

The storyline was so real to life. We didn't want to stop listening. The narration was spot on and every voice was very distinguishable. The different dialects rolled off the tongue so smooth, it made it easy to listen and actually live in the moments. Excellent!

It’s rare to read a novel that’s so thoroughly enjoyable on so many levels! I stumbled upon this author and this narrator and I’m so glad I did because they’re a fantastic duo. I laughed out loud while listening to it and even shed a few tears. It was more than a romance. You’ll love this novel whether you’re familiar with Nigerian culture or not but if you’re familiar with it, you’ll be delighted. The accents and all of the cultural references and nuances are spot on with only a couple of minor issues. I promise you won’t regret the credit spent on this one. In fact, I’m getting ready to download her second novel right now!

Wonderful through and through

Great book. Great story. Great flow.
It reminded me of Crazy Rich Asians, someone who didn’t know their family or their heritage and was accepted and then found out that they were loved and had a family after all. Love rules all.
