About this listen

Narrated with warmth, humor, exceptional candor and wisdom, The Sum of Our Days is a portrait of a contemporary family, tied together by the love, strong will, and stubborn determination of a beloved matriarch, the indomitable New York Times best-selling author of The House of the Spirits, Isabel Allende.

"An inspiring and thought-provoking work." (Denver Post)

Isabel Allende reconstructs the painful reality of her own life in the wake of the tragic death of her daughter, Paula. Narrated with warmth, humor, exceptional candor, and wisdom, this remarkable memoir is as exuberant and as full of life as its creator.

Allende bares her soul while sharing her thoughts on love, marriage, motherhood, spirituality and religion, infidelity, addiction, and memory - and recounts stories of the wildly eccentric, strong-minded, and eclectic tribe she gathers around her and lovingly embraces as a new kind of family.

I have loved Isabel Allende’s writings from the first time I read “House of Spirits” for my Latin American 101 class my first semester of college - eons ago - then “Portrait in Sepia”.

Life has finally slowed down and I’m catching up. I’m seriously behind. I have yet to read anything she writes not suspenseful, funny, sad, and leaving me wanting more.

She’s worth every second of your time, whether it be via audio or text. She’s a wonderful story teller.

I highly recommend anything she writes. You’ll not regret it.

She does not disappoint

I don’t know why I took so long to read this book! Isabel Allende is one of my favorite authors but since this book is not a novel, I thought I would not like it, but I loved it! She is so witty and funny and is an amazing story teller! The performance was superb!

I have enjoyed each of Isabel's books until this one. My book club and I have rated 5 stars to her novels. So disappointed in this one. To me much more Isabel sharing her political views more than the relationship with her daughter, Don't care to know what her liberal views are. Perhaps Isabel forgot that she writes for a all types of readers even the conservative one.
