About this listen

Miss Frederica "Free" Marshall has put her heart and soul into her newspaper, known for its outspoken support of women's rights. Naturally, her enemies are intent on destroying her business and silencing her for good. Free refuses to be at the end of her rope...but she needs more rope, and she needs it now. Edward Clark's aristocratic family abandoned him to die in a war-torn land, so he survived the only way he could: by becoming a rogue and a first-class forger. When the same family that left him for dead vows to ruin Miss Marshall, he offers his help. So what if he has to lie to her? She's only a pawn to use in his revenge. But the irrepressible Miss Marshall soon enchants Edward. By the time he realizes that his cynical heart is hers, it's too late. The only way to thwart her enemies is to reveal his scandalous past...and once the woman he loves realizes how much he's lied to her, he'll lose her forever. The Suffragette Scandal is the fourth full-length historical romance in The Brothers Sinister series.

OK

Smooth dialog, almost no sex. Some of the themes in this series are starting to become redundant.

Great story.

Another great book by Courtney Milan and narrated by the ever talented Rosalyn Landor. Anytime you find this combination you are in for a treat. I laughed when it seemed like Free kept outsmarting Edward. Loved the book & the series.

I love this author's stories. They're always different from the standard romance novels. Great narration.

Technically brilliant, but...

Don’t get me wrong. This is a fine book. Free is smart, bold, and knows what she wants. Edward is one of the best romance heroes I’ve ever come across. This is a technically brilliant romance. You really will want to read it.

But...

It just lacked something. It was a finely rendered story, but it didn’t have the oomph I wanted. It didn’t grab my emotions the way it grabbed my brain. Technically, it was brilliant, but emotionally, it was tepid.

R. Landor & C. Milan-Winning Combo- BEST of SERIES

Any additional comments?

This entire series is just delightful and a great listen, but this is my favorite!

The story has great female characters, interesting period details, fun and humorous dialogue.

It is so entertaining and a perfect historical novel. Well done Courtney Milan!

The love story is great, and Rosalyn Landor is just the PERFECT narrator for this genre! She distinguishes voices masterfully, has impressive and diverse male voices as well as great female voices. She never overacts, and makes every book a better listen.

Story: 5 stars, love the whole series , but this is the best!
Performance: 5 stars, really perfect in every way.
Relationship/heat: great characters, romantic and fun, and just the right amount of heat with emotions!

Overall: 5 stars, perfect Historical Romance. Definitely worth a credit!

Courtney Milan and Rosalyn Landor combo are now automatic downloads for me!

l enjoyed a story with strong female characters!

A great romance without deminishing the female characters to helpless woman who can't handle anything.

Captivating.

Courtney Milan never disappoints in the intricacy of plot, complexity of characters and my being so caught up in her stories that I neglect other events. "Free" Marshall and Edward Clark have their hands full stopping a villain from ruining Free and her newspaper. And, naturally, these two smart, sharp charmers could not avoid love while fighting off the bad guys. Lots of action and great dialogue pushed me ruthlessly to the perfectly satisfying ending. A fine series all the way through. As always, Rosalyn Landor did her superb job as narrator.

Huzzah! Suffragettes!

Rosalyn Landor reading Courtney Milan is one of my very favorite things, and this book did not disappoint. If you like your heroes and heroines to be genuinely intelligent; if you like your stories to be more than just a loose framework for a series of sex scenes; if you've ever thrown down a romance novel in disgust and wondered what that ninny of a heroine saw in that boorish, rapey thug of a hero, then you are exactly the audience for this book (and this whole series).

Ms. Milan crafts stories that boldly address social injustices without being preachy - on the contrary, her characters balance heartbreaking vulnerability, moral courage, and senses of humor in perfect proportion. Somehow, this book - which addresses themes of sexism, war, family discord, and torture - trips along on prose light as meringue and is often laugh-out-loud hilarious.

The heroine, Free, is everything you'd want the editor of a feminist newspaper to be - brash, confident, courageous, smart - but she's entirely relatable. Even if you think you're not a feminist, you'll still like her. The hero, Edward, is obviously perfect for her from the start, but there are still plenty of surprises along the way.

Complaints? The obstacle to the hero and heroine's ultimate happiness starts to wear a little thin by the end, and the primary villain is so thoroughly unsympathetic I found him a little unbelievable - but it didn't really matter. Courtney Milan now sets the bar for historical romance, as far as I'm concerned, and this book was awesome.
