About this listen

It started with one night out with the boys. She was the hot diner waitress putting herself through school. I was the rich, arrogant player everyone misjudges. On paper, we didn’t match. Yet all it took was one day. One single day to change her mind.

She wasn’t planning to spend her day off with me. She wasn’t supposed to fall for my charm. But one day, one smile, turned into several nights of her calling out my name.

I’m not the guy she should end up with. I’m jealous, possessive. Not here for a long time - just a good time. She’s changed me. But, for some reason, I feel her slipping through my fingers, and no matter what I do, I fear I’m going to strike out with the one and only girl I’ve ever fallen for.

4 ⭐️s for this MQ Baseball Romance

This was an enjoyable listening experience overall. The story was well-plotted, and the banter between the H and h was top-notch. Meghan Quinn is quite good at banter, and the chemistry between Holt and Harmony made their exchanges particularly sparkling. Holt was incredibly charming but still so grounded; it’s refreshing when a H is so self-aware and can communicate that through both his words and actions. Holt knows who he is, what he wants and also what he deserves; he isn’t afraid to call Harmony out when she’s being narrowminded, which happens quite a bit in the beginning. His high level of self-awareness did lead to one of my few quibbles with this story – it made the third act conflict (which is centered around his reactions and behavior) seem a bit forced as it was such a shift from what he had been for the majority of the story; so, it felt like it was forced to manufacture conflict. Still, this was a minor flaw and was resolved fairly quickly. Harmony’s character arc was perhaps the more pronounced between the two mains; she’s a bit set in her vision of others, quick to judge them. But she does come around and allow herself to see the limitations of those kinds of judgements; she has a strong relationship with her parents and her best friend, and these relationships help to soften some of her rougher flaws. There are also strong supporting characters here; Holt’s baseball buds were fun, but I absolutely adore Priya (Harmony’s best friend). She is just so fierce in her loyalty, but not afraid to call the h out when Harmony is getting it wrong. I would totally read her story if MQ decides to write it! Connor Crais and Mackenzie Cartwright are accomplished performers, though they did sound a bit mature to buy as college students. Still, after the first few chapters, I was pulled into the story because these MQ characters are just that good. Overall, this one is definitely worth a listen.

I received an ALC of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. Also read via KU.

Electric banter and slow burning young love!!

Holt is a frustratingly cocky, funny, arrogant and super hot baseball player and Connor’s voice totally makes him come alive. Mackenzie exudes Harmony’s feisty, strong character. The chemistry between Holt and Harmony is off the charts but it’s a slow journey for Holt to convince Harmony that they are meant to be. Holt’s character is charming and hysterical and pulled me in from the beginning.

Smooth talker!

Holt is so stinking smooth I love it. I got a little irritated with the FMC, but push through she gets better and the book as a whole is great!!

Opposites Attract Romance

Just when you think "this is a sweet opposites attract, insta-love romance" BAM Meghan hits you with the twist and it just keeps coming.
Holt is the rich boy with the full ride scholarship to play baseball (plus he's hot).
Harmony is the hard working girl with a partial scholarship and a crappy job forced to deal with the hungover athletes.
On paper it shouldn't work. The snarky girl and the clean cut boy. What's not to love?
Standalone with no cliffhangers.

Quite Enjoyable!

I really enjoyed this story! It was light hearted at times, it was serious at times. Touched on mental health and serious relationship topics.

And there is a line towards the end where she jabs at herself in relation to Knox and Emery’s book which made me laugh

This beautiful story was narrated by Connor Crais and Mackenzie Cartwright. I love both of them. Separately and together.

Entertaining, fun and emotional

This was the first book to go on my best reads of 2021 so I was excited to see how it’s sounded on audible and wow what a great job Connor Crais and Mackenzie Cartwright did bringing the characters and their story to life.

Omg this book has all the feels you want in a great read, it has characters you can’t help falling in love with and I fell hook, line and sinker for Holt and Harmony. This story takes us back to the baseball boys of Brentwood and as always these boys have an entertaining tale to tell....
Holt Green is easy to fall for, he is swoon worthy, witty and underneath the bad boys facade he has a heart of gold, he cares and protects the people in his life but will Harmony allow him inside her world.
Holt and Harmony come from different worlds but that doesn’t stop Holt wanting the girl he has only met once because he knows deep down she could be the one and he needs to get to know her better.....
A chance meeting turns into a friendship and then into love, the chemistry is sizzling and the banter is witty and flows so naturally . I laughed, I sighed, I swooned and I cried because The Strike Out is Ms Quinn at her best and I highly recommend The Strike Out

The Strike Out

"When you have faith in yourself and the people you surround yourself with, then it's easy to be optimistic."

Holt and Harmony meet at the local dinner at the end of summer break and their first meeting does not go very well since Harmony does not like jocks. Holt becomes intrigued as to why Harmony does not like athletes and makes it his mission to figure her out.

I loved the playfully witty banter between Holt and Harmony and their connection and chemistry is steamy. Holt is not your typical rich, entitled athlete, he definitely had many layers to him. Harmony is hard-working, goal-oriented, and knows what she wants. I enjoyed the somewhat insta-love but also borderline slow burn combination and I am not a huge fan of slow-burn romances. There were some parts in the book where the mc's seemed a little too immature for their age.

Audio … Connor Crais and Mackenzie Cartwright did a great job of bringing the characters and story to life. Their voices really complimented each other well.

Holt is one of my favourites!

I love, love Holt. He’s sweet, charming, sweet, funny and protective. This was my first dip into the Brentwood Boys series when the ebook was released and I was hooked. And the audio lived up to my dreams. It was even better second time around. Harmony was also wonderful. Strong, smart and not afraid of the future. These two were absolutely perfect.

Connor Crais and Mackenzie Cartwright were perfect for Holt and Harmony. I always look forward to books they narrate together.

Another winner!

The more books I read by this author the more I am enjoying them! At first I wasn’t sure I would really get into a college sports romance but the writing is done so well and the characters are well developed.
Harmony and Holt have a rocky start to their relationship and are faced with challenges along the way but it is so sweet to watch them overcome everything together.

Another great book in the Brentwood Boys Series! I am loving this series and this book was a little deeper than the rest for me so far. I enjoyed the almost love at first sight feel this story had. Harmony and Holt had chemistry and I thought this book was hotter than the others in the series. I will admit the jealousy thing is never something I like in romance and this book had a few scenes of very overdone and uncalled for jealousy drama but even with that I still really enjoyed this romance. I loved how things worked out in the end and when it was over my heart was happy!

The narration was great, both narrators were perfectly cast for these characters.
