An Awesome Listen

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the narrator and found it inspiring. I don't listen to much fiction, instead I prefer more action and suspense, with is now happening as the series grows. Everything starts with a death of a daughter, sister, and friend, when she leaves a personal message to every family member to be read after her death. In book 4, 5 and 6, her effect on her younger sister snow balls and the effecting three more women trying to take control of their own lives. Every type of emotion is on display as the stories of three very different women are told. Each book is inspiring and uplifting, as each women struggles to be what they want to be. This combination of author and narrator never fails to draw you into their world. Very much worth listening too.

If you’re trying to decide whether to get this book or not… Get it!

In April we meet Rosie she’s been married for almost 2 decades to Carlos they have kids together and she has a job as a loan officer which is becoming very boring and she does the same thing every day. Her dream is to go back to school but what will her husband say and what about her kids who need her these are questions she will face and once she starts going to school she goes with kids 20 years younger than she is with less responsibility more careless free time on their hands and don’t have nowhere near the responsibilities she does. Will she make it through or will she give up. I thought this book wasn’t going to be that great I mean on the surface it doesn’t sound exciting it was way better than I thought it was going to be boring, but I found myself not morning to put it down. ML Hamilton has a way of getting you in the story and not letting you go I think she is an awesome writer and storyteller. As for Kelly Hazen she is one of the best narrators I love her Coco I’m voice I just think she is superb. I have read many books narrated by her and she makes them that much better.

May Isabell Liz I must give a trigger warning there is secret drugging and possible rape in the fallout from that. This one just like most of them is very emotional Liz wakes up not knowing where she is or what happened because she can’t remember the night before all she knows is she went to a party and boom she’s waking up in strangers room. Everyone keeps telling her she should make a stand call the police go to the hospital blah blah blah she doesn’t know what to do all she knows is that she can ignore it and it is going to change her life forever.

In June we meet Melanie who loves her grandparents very much but has a secret that will probably devastate them. Although they want her to get married and have kids at the graduating college she isn’t attracted to men she’s always known she was different and liked women. The story is it about Melanies contemplation of what to do should she come out and hurt the people she loves or keep it inside now this story is a real story about wanting to come out in a loving family sometimes without the only want to stand by us. This is a poignant touching tragic at times on consolable tale of something people go through every day. That’s what I kept thinking as I read it that every day someone is having this dilemma. And once again Mrs. Hamilton shines the light what A tragedy… Will it become a trial of Romain the devastation Melanie thinks it is going to be. I think everyone should read this book at the very least you have a understanding of what people go through and making this decision. This book as well as the one with the Liz very poignant and isimportant that they be read.

A good continuation of the series...

"April", "May" and "June" - the Spring tales in the "Year of Discovery" series - continue with the stories of unusual women who have to deal with issues life throws at so many of us there...

Rosie, a middle-aged mother of Latin origins, decides to go back to school to get a degree - and has to handle both studying and coping with problems in her family, not really certain of their support for her pursuing her dreams... Until one fateful day that changes everything...

Lizzie, a 19-year-old student, lives through a traumatic experience and has to not only get over her denial (with a little help from a psychologist) but also finally get courage to be open with her own mother... Will she be able to take action to prevent whatever happened to her happen to others?

Mel has always hidden her sexual orientation from her grandparents, but now they know the truth - and they reject her. And her girlfriend leaves her at the worst possible moment. Will Mel finally follow her own advice, accept herself and take on whatever life brings her at face value or will she shy away again?

All three stories are inspirational, emotional, and touch on serious matters with delicacy and tact. They are also quite fast-paced, which on the one hand is good as it makes them more intriguing, but on the other it gives the books a kind of fairy-tale quality: everything comes to a happy ending a little too fast and too smoothly... But don't get me wrong: there are more than a few heartbreaking scenes before we come to the satisfactory solution. It simply feels like everything solves itself in too short a span of time. But as it serves the stories well, it doesn't bother me so much...

Generally, if you look for a set of stories that will allow you to feel a whole set of emotions while touching on real problems of the modern world and the place of women in it - grab the set. And don't foget to go back to set one, too; the winter stories are as good, if not better...

Narration by Ms Hazen is as always very good, although this time I don't like some of the voices she's given particular characters. But as an interpreter and an actor she's perfect at conveying emotions, which in stories like these is priceless.

Lives Continued

These are the continuation of a 12 short book series about 12 women’s lives and I enjoy them. Aril is about Rosie Estrada who has her hands full. She is married to Rafael, has 2 sons Nesto and Teban, a full time job as loan officer and wants to better herself by going to college. All of the characters are likable and real. I was upset when Rafael was harassed by the cop. Story starts out with family visiting Maddie. May the main character is Lizzie a college student who had a devastating event happened to her and goes to Dr. Saito after urging of her friends. She has difficulty handling it all with added stress while her younger sister Margaret has to have immediate life threating surgery. Her friends Mel and Bonnie help her more than doc and Lizzie comes face to face with ex-boyfriend. In June the primary character in this book is Mel who is gay going thru rough times she lost her parents at young age and raised by her grandparents who disapprove of her lifestyle and loses Bonnie. She takes job at women’s center where Lizzie seeks help after her rape (previous book and roommate) and it is having problems with anti-abortion group. She also meets Mika (troubled child) and her mother Margo from previous books. Recommend if you enjoy a good story about life from different aspects with great narration. The Spring of Discovery

An impressive box set from The Year of Discovery series... this is books 4-6 which gives of the stories of Rosie, Lizzie, and Mel.

Rosie has always put her family first and she’s happy, but sometimes you need more. Her dream has always been to go back to school and get a college education, but is that even possible with all of her responsibilities?

Lizzie’s story is definitely relevant to situations that are unfortunately becoming all to familiar these days. She is a strong woman and I was thrilled with how this story was presented.

Mel’s Story is truly inspirational. Being shunned by her grandparents for choosing to be herself was difficult to deal with. Coupling that with being dumped by her girlfriend of two years made it almost unbearable. I was inspired by the journey Mel undertook, and the twist at the end brought me to tears.

I highly recommend this fantastic series written by M. L. Hamilton and narrated by Kelley Hazen!
