About this listen

What will the pretty little fly do when she is asked to join the big, hairy spider in his parlor? The fly has heard that those who visit the spider never come back, but the scary spider tries to trick the innocent fly.

This dark fable, by accomplished writer and poet Mary Howitt, has been a favorite for generations. Now, Davina Porter’s charming narration illuminates the cautionary tale for a whole new audience.

Never Speak to Spiders

What do you expect? Certainly not a good ending for such a book as this. But, it is still a great poem I remember well from childhood. I think its one that most children can enjoy, just not the very young, who may be a bit scared. The reading is of good quality.

Timeless Lessons

What was a great poem for children was modernized by an illustrator and now there’s a narrator breathing life into the little tale. I love it! Howitt probably never knew that her words would live on like this. Way cool.
