Story
As Kinnall Darival writes "I" in his journal, he knows this pronoun is forbidden by his people of Manneran because it is too personal. But through the use of a powerful, mind-altering drug, he has learned to understand what people are really feeling and to speak for himself. Now he is compelled to share his message of liberation, regardless of the risk. This science fiction classic is a cult favorite from a Hugo and Nebula Award-winning author.

Story
Set in the distant future, when human beings populate a variety of planets, A Time of Changes examines the society of Borthan. For thousands of years, Borthan has been ruled by a covenant that teaches that the self is to be despised. The baring of personal thoughts and feelings represents the most heinous crime. Kinnall Darival has always outwardly observed the covenant. But inwardly, he commits a grave offense when he falls in love with his bondsister, Halum.

Duncan Chalk is a monstrous media mogul with a vast appetite for other people's pain. He feeds off it and carefully nurtures it in order to feed it to the public. It is inevitable that Chalk should hone in on Minner Burris, a space traveler whose body was taken apart by alien surgeons and then put back together again - differently. Burris' pain is constant. And so is that of Lona Kelvin, used by scientists to supply eggs for 100 children and then ruthlessly discarded.

Story
In what is considered one of Heinlein's most hair-raising, thought-provoking, and outrageous adventures, the master of modern science fiction tells the strange story of an even stranger world. It is 21st-century Luna, a harsh penal colony where a revolt is plotted between a bashful computer and a ragtag collection of maverick humans, a revolt that goes beautifully until the inevitable happens. But that's the problem with the inevitable: it always happens.

First published in 1984, the novel's central issues - technology, globalization, gender, sexuality, and multiculturalism - have only become more pressing with the passage of time.

A human-focused SF classic

By: Frederik Pohl
Publisher's summary
Abner Harris came to Earth on a mission of extreme urgency. A subject of the Spirit had no right to question his orders. And his orders said that the universe was in danger of enslavement by the pebble-skinned Medlins. And that the fight against their evil scheming called for him to assume the guise of a flesh-and-blood Earthman.
But once in that new synthetic body, he made a mind-bending discovery: the real villains of space were neither the Medlins nor the people of Earth, but his own kind!
Suddenly he was alone, alienated from his own race, hated by the Medlins, and an impostor on Earth. No matter which side he chooses, he'll be a traitor, but choose he must - or forever remain a man without a planet!

Yakoub was once the legendary king of the Rom, the Gypsy race that has evolved from the days of caravans into lords of the spaceways - the only pilots capable of steering ships safely between the many worlds of the galaxy. Weary and proud, Yakoub has relinquished his power and lives in exile on a distant, icy world. In his absence, chaos fills the vacuum of power. The fate of the entire galactic empire hangs in the balance.

Story
Needle in a Timestack is Robert Silverberg at his very best - intelligent, inventive, and visionary. This collection showcases his talent for thought-provoking science fiction, ranging in themes from time travel to space travel, the media to mortality. In the titular story - under development as a feature film by Oscar-winning screenwriter John Ridley - a jealous ex-husband warps time in a vindictive attempt to destroy his former wife's new marriage. Thirty-one identical sons have a shocking surprise for their mother in "There Was an Old Woman".

Fun, light espionage sci-fi story.
I’ve read 100s of sci-fi books. This is a simple aliens conducting espionage and proxy war on earth story. Nothing too impressive but still entertaining. Narration is good. Fairly easy to listen at 1.3x speed too.
