About this listen
In The Silent Inheritance, the author of the best-selling Woody Creek series brings another unforgettable cast of characters to life in a brand new story.
Sarah Carter, mother of 12-year-old Marni, is raising her daughter alone in a small granny flat in suburban Melbourne.
A serial killer, dubbed 'The Freeway Killer', is headline news and when Marni's classmate is abducted from the mall where Sarah and Marni shop, their city no longer feels safe.
Detective Ross Hunter's investigation into the abduction leads him to dead ends - until an unrelated incident sends him to the door of Freddy Adam-Jones, an unscrupulous barrister, who is guarding a secret that could ruin his life.
When an unexpected windfall changes the lives of Sarah and Marni, their sudden wealth opens doors long closed, and threatens to cast light on history better left buried. What might Sarah's past reveal? What is her connection to Freddy? And can Detective Ross Hunter discover the link in time to save a young girl's life?

Story
If you've ever laughed your way through David Sedaris's cheerfully misanthropic stories, you might think you know what you're getting with Calypso. You'd be wrong. When he buys a beach house on the Carolina coast, Sedaris envisions long, relaxing vacations spent playing board games and lounging in the sun with those he loves most. And it's as idyllic as he imagined, except for one tiny, vexing realization: it's impossible to take a vacation from yourself. With Calypso, Sedaris sets his formidable powers of observation - and dark humor - toward middle age and mortality.

Welcome to the hilarious, strange, elegiac, outrageous world of David Sedaris. In Naked, Sedaris turns the current mania for the memoir on its proverbial ear, mining the exceedingly rich terrain of his life, his family, and his unique worldview, a sensibility at once take-no-prisoners sharp and deeply charitable.

Story
Irene Bobs loves fast driving. Her husband is the best car salesman in southeastern Australia. Together they enter the Redex Trial, a brutal race around the ancient continent, over roads no car will ever quite survive. With them is their lanky, fair-haired navigator, Willie Bachhuber, a quiz show champion and failed schoolteacher who calls the turns and creeks crossings on a map that will remove them, without warning, from the white Australia they all know so well. This is a thrilling high-speed story that starts in one way and then takes you someplace else. It is often funny, more so as the world gets stranger, and always compelling, even as you learn a history these characters never knew themselves.

Compelling and Yet.....
This is a great story and yet...the actual connections made in the story seem a little over the top. Marnie is a wonderful character for a girl who is only 13 she most definetly has an old head on her shoulders. Sarah/Jillian is also a great character but her connections through the story are somewhat too unreal to be true.
Nevertheless it is a good tale to listen to!

IMHO, not worth a credit
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I am not sure. The first hour of the book attempts to introduce a myriad of characters but it does not give adequate context so the reader is left with no way to catalog them.
Has The Silent Inheritance turned you off from other books in this genre?
No. I generally like psychological mysteries.
What about Deidre Rubenstein’s performance did you like?
The narrator did fine with what she had to work with.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment. There were so many characters that had so many problems. The author attempted to solicit sympathy for every one of them. All the individual issues seemed trite and tired; no imagination.
