About this listen

The pope is dead and the corridors of the Vatican hum with intrigue as cardinals gather to elect his successor. The result is a surprise: the new pope is the youngest of them all – a bearded Ukrainian. The Shoes of the Fisherman is the moving story of Kiril I, recently released from 17 years in Siberian labour camps and haunted by his past. Not only is he the leader of a fractured Catholic Church, but he also finds he must confront his inquisitor and tormentor in order to avert another world war. An international bestseller, The Shoes of the Fisherman is one of the great novels of the 20th century and is still widely popular today. It is the first novel in Morris West's Vatican trilogy.©1963 The Morris West Collection (P)2019 Bolinda Publishing Christian Fiction Fiction Genre Fiction Thriller & Suspense Pope Outdoor Fishing

Totally enthralling stands this test of time and insightful and thought-provoking view of the church in the world. Very different than the movie with wonderful revelations about religion and human behavior. A great experience highly recommended.

Timeless, a true classic, and a wonderful performance

This book is very well written, and it was well performed in a straightforward fashion. What I expected was a novel that focused on the pope and the college of Cardinals. Instead, there were several sub plots concerning adultery, homosexuality, annulment, and deformed babies who were described as penguins. I would say perhaps 50% of it dealt with the pope. It reads much like an Arthur Haley novel from the 1960s. that’s not necessarily a bad thing but it wasn’t what I was looking for.

Good … But …

Enjoyed the book which gives a very detailed description of the role of the Pope and priests in the Catholic Church… the only thing that made it difficult to follow was the narrator’s failure to make good enough distinctions in the characters and change of scenes… at times it was hard to follow…

Very good book for a Catholic
