She's not the chosen one. She's just the one willing to break all the rules. Laylea is a dog shifter. Separated from her littermates when she just six weeks old, she's been hiding her entire life. She was eleven before she discovered she can turn into a human. Which kind of explains why her bio-father wants to tear her apart and see how she ticks. Laylea has never been to school. She’s never had a friend her own age. She’s never known anyone else like her.
All that is about to change.
In a world hidden from wyrdos and humans alike, shifters are still recovering from a vicious plot to destroy them all. They have two laws they live by now:
1) Hide
2) Protect the children at all costs.
After a lifetime of practice, you'd think Laylea would have #1 down pat. But she's not very good at shifting, or rather at not shifting. Startled by a gunshot, she shifted in front of normal humans. But she’s only fourteen. So they’re sending her to a special school hidden underneath the Lincoln Park Zoo. Where she finds that clues that someone in the school is breaking rule #2.
When she starts asking questions, accidents start happening. And no one believes her. Laylea going to have to break a lot more rules if she wants to survive in Shifter School.

Came for the voice, will stay for the stories!!
I absolutely fell in love with Gwendolyn Druyor's voice and characters in other series that she has narrated, and when I found she had written some books of her own, I decided to give it a chance. This book is sooooo engaging, and wonderfully written, that I will admit to having abandoned my husband for most of a long weekend, and finishing the entire series! I can't wait to start Were-Humans next!!
