About this listen

For the first time in unabridged audio download comes Rosamunde Pilcher's phenomenal, heartwarming best seller, read by Hayley Atwell.

Artist's daughter Penelope Keeling can look back on a full and varied life: a Bohemian childhood in London and Cornwall, an unhappy wartime marriage, and the one man she truly loved. She has brought up three children - and learned to accept them as they are.

Yet she is far too energetic and independent to settle sweetly into pensioned-off old age. And when she discovers that her most treasured possession, her father's painting, The Shell Seekers, is now worth a small fortune, it is Penelope who must make the decisions that will determine whether her family can continue to survive as a family or be split apart.

Excellent Way to Reread this book

This is a reread, but this time via audiobook, which is a marvellous way to read this book. It's so well written, I loved the character of Penelope and her story over the years of her life. Two such incredibly selfish children and one not. One unworthy husband, and yet she knew love from various sources. I cheered as she made decisions at the end of her life that richly rewarded those who deserved to be so rewarded. Narration was very good.

Penelope is a remarkable character

Beautifully crafted story with strong characters. Enough time to develop them and enjoy the scenery too.

Beautiful story, beautifully told!

I have listened to this book twice, it's so good. The story is told from different perspectives throughout and the descriptions of the locations are superb. The narrator is excellent, and makes the book even better, if that is possible. Highly recommend.

Absorbing and Entertaining

I thoroughly enjoyed re-visiting this book which I first read several decades ago. I can recommend it wholeheartedly - a story about a family and about people who seem to step out of the story and live in the reader’s world. The descriptions of Cornwall were enough to make me want to plan a visit there without delay.

A Timeless Classic

Having read The Shell Seekers many years ago, it was such a pleasure to revisit this lovely book, this time the audible version. The narrator is absolutely superb.
