Acerca de esta escucha

The Seven Million Dollar Spy reveals, for the first time, the inside story of the dramatic US counterintelligence operation that resulted in the capture of the most dangerous mole working for Russia inside US intelligence. Now, the former senior KGB spy, to whom the US paid seven million dollars for Moscow's file on the mole, is identified by both his real and code names.

The audiobook also reveals how a death threat by the Russian Mafia against the former senior KGB spy over a spoiled caviar deal worth millions was the key to unmasking the mole inside US intelligence.

The Seven Million Dollar Spy tells the story, and final success, of the determined FBI counterspy who spent six years pursuing the mole and approaching 27 potential KGB sources - despite pressure to stop from his superiors who said he was wasting both time and money with nothing to show for it.

Until the 28th spy.

I thought it was well documented and the timeline, plus relationships of all the parties involved, was crafted perfectly. I enjoyed listening to this book and understanding the rest of the story about this guy.

The Rest of the Story Revealed

This story was an enjoyable review of the years ending the cold War and the aftermath of the Soviet Union. As someone with a back row seat to the events surrounding these events, the newer information reported on in this story provides the listener with details often kept out of the public offerings by officials and court filings.

A good update on the Hanssen case.

Mr. Wise delves deep into the Robert Hannsen story. It is well researched and will keep you engaged along the way. It is a must for people who enjoy espionage stories.

Great Book

With espionage novels, I found the billion dollar spy to be more profound. Totally different story and different premise, but this novel was very well written and the performance was great.

Pretty pretty good but not the best

The true story on 2 of the most damaging spies in US history and how they were finally caught

Great inside information on espionage

This book was 3.5 stars for me. I rounded up because I did learn a few new things. This was a book that I think should have been read and not listened to. It's not that the narration was bad, but there are so many unfamiliar names to keep straight, I think seeing the names vs hearing the names would have helped me keep the Soviet names straight.

I found the second half of the book was better than the first half. The first half was a hodge podge of US and Soviet spies. The timeline in the book jumped around which made the story less clear. The first half deals with Aldrich Ames which has been covered better in many other books. This book did reference the sad story of Adolph Tolkachev (highly recommend reading The Billion Dollar Spy by David Hoffman to learn more). The second half of the book was focused on Robert Hanssen. Even though there are other books about him, I learned some new information about Hanssen. I also enjoyed learning about Gennadiy Vasilenko and Jack Platt. That was an interesting story. This is why I rounded up to 4 stars.

The author did repeat information several times throughout the book, especially in the epilogue. I think more editing could have made this book 5 stars.

Might Be Better To Read Book Than Listen

Adds to the books on gray suit. Grateful fbi finally apologized to Mrs Kelly. Amazed at the fortitude of Bonnie Hansen after learning her husband was a traitor and a pervert.
