About this listen

Pierce Carver was one of Austin's richest, most successful surgeons. And he was going to marry trauma nurse Rose Marie Castle and put her aching feet into glass slippers. Unfortunately, the doctor had a weakness for the allure of youth and feminine perfection. He jilted Rose Marie three years ago, and she's still dreaming of revenge.

And things are looking bad for Rose Marie. The night Pierce died she was inside his magnificent home, half naked, and very willing to accept his apologies. Now she's the prime suspect. Worse, her high school sweetheart is the investigating detective. But if Rose Marie didn't kill the not-so-good doctor, who did? Between his ex-wives, his angry stepchildren, and the deep, dirty secrets driving their lives, somebody resorted to murder. And it looks as if Dr. Carver kept the biggest, baddest secrets of all.

Ann You Have Done Better!

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I have STOPPED at ch.7 as I can not continue. A.M. is a good author so do not judge her work based on this read. This is a mystery and romance, but maybe the editing or the poor reader has made this story so very common and stale. Ms Major, you could have developed this story so much better, it sounded like a day time soap opera. There is nothing wrong with day time soaps, but I do not want to have it in my listens. This could have been such a fast action who dunnit with great romance listen, but it was not.

Would you ever listen to anything by Ann Major again?

I love Ann Major's older work and this was posted on Audible so I purchased it. So yes I would buy more of A.M. books as long as this reader did not record it.

Would you be willing to try another one of Suzanne Toren’s performances?

Absolutely not! I did check out this reader and she has 272 posted recording so I figured she should be good. For my taste, she is awful. She has a range of voices, but none that had any appeal to me. This reader could learn so much from the late great Anna Fields, Karen White, or Natalie Ross. Reader made the female lead sound insipid. Again, maybe bad editing as the female was so weak and trait.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Secret Lives of Doctors' Wives?

I stopped at ch. 7 as I could not spend another minute listening to this story.

Any additional comments?

Audible, please give ms Major more opportunities to share her good writing skills. I do not know who picked this reader for this book, but it was a very bad match and it killed this read for me.
