It's a nice innocent child's fantasy book and even though I'm older I thoroughly enjoyed it after I got into it. After some of the more acclaimed fantasy series I found this one more enjoyable some others with a darker tone

Great children's book and still good for adults

I absolutely loved the character development throughout the story for both Jack and thorgill. You can really tell that the writer put a lot of love into her story.

The character development

Literature, not fast paced one liners and superkid hero. Gerard Doyle turns gold into platinum. If there is something that I would have wished for is more reason to reread to discover any gems hidden in the early chapters, pointers to how the story goes. There are some, but mostly the story just moves forward as the young lad slowly grows. One does, in the series, gain more sympathy for those who pillage and plunder, It's just the way they are raised. And we learn that the greedy christian monks are also stupid - they fool themselves into not believing their eyes, when trolls, elves, dragons and whatnot stand right in front of them..

A rare example of YA literature

I've been listening to this audio recording at least yearly for some time...I used to rely on the public library, but I am so pleased to have an Audible version now. The plot is fantastic and the delivery of the narrator perfect. The characters are robust and compelling. I just can't say enough good things about The Sea of Trolls and its two sequels.

A superlative fantasy, almost beyond compare...it is one of those in the rarefied stratosphere with legendary fantasy novels. Every single character is beautifully and believably depicted and nearly all have their annoying flaws, making them all the more engaging. I cannot offer a single criticism.

It is a pity the author decided not to return to this world after three books. I can never get enough of Jack's world. One of my top literary wishes is that the very talented Nancy Farmer will pick up the trilogy where she left off and write another...

Engaging fantasy at its best

If you could sum up The Sea of Trolls in three words, what would they be?

wonderful, adventurous and Norse. I am listening to the entire trilogy. This books is a fantastic amalgamation of Norse myth, general fairy tale, and classic adventure. Recommended for any one who craves all things Norse.

What other book might you compare The Sea of Trolls to and why?

A good story that kept my attention and had me laughing occasionally. I loved hearing the Norse tales by the bards and the journey was good, not great but good. I wasn’t a fan of the berserker girl (I don’t remember her name), I am a character driven reader, so this department needed a bit of help. I probably won’t continue with the rest of the series unless I find it on sale, but only because I have an overwhelming number of books in my library I haven’t read yet. My favorite children’s book series is How to Train your Dragon by Cressida Cowell and of course the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling. While the narrator was great, I did speed up the playback because it seemed to take forever to get through the story (although this could have been the story was sometimes slow.)

A fun children’s adventure.

I’ve listened to this book several times and it holds up. There are many layers to the story- a good read

I read this book when I was a kid and absolutely loved it. I’ve read it a few times since, but this was my first time listening to it. This was preformed so well. I will absolutely be keeping this in my library to enjoy time and time again. Perfect for a person who needs adventure but has no time.

It just keeps getting better.
