Critic reviews

"In this fast-paced narrative that doesn't tinker with the earlier Sea Hunters' successful formula, Cussler and his teams search for 300 years' worth of wrecks as varied as La Salle's 17th-century flagship, a dirigible lost in a storm off the New Jersey coast in 1933 and the famous PT-109. Cussler traveled along the coast of Texas, up the Mississippi River and to the jungles of the South Pacific in search of historically important wrecks of all sorts. Cussler first provides the historical background for each tragedy (sometimes inventing dialogue when there are no survivors to interview), then dives into his own adventures." ( Publishers Weekly)

Interesting listen

Well presented, and a engagingly written narrative. Did not suffer any of the "zoning out" that usually happens when listening to a retelling of first hand experiences

Audible chapters don’t match book chapters

Good stories, and with the exception of a few mispronounced names, a good narration. My big beef with this audiobook is that Audible has not made the chapters coincide with the chapters in the book. Jumping to the next or previous chapter in Audible does not take you to the beginning of the chapter, but rather some random place.

Great searches for sunken ships of history!

I decided to read this book while looking for some adventurous reads to share with my teen grandsons, and to my great surprise, I loved everything about the book! Definitely sharing with all three grandsons!

This book is a great blend of historical fiction , telling about various real sea vessels and sea airplanes that ended their lives in crashes. NUMA is an organization that is mostly funded by adventure author, Clive Clussler. It's mission is to find and salvage these sea vessels for history.

Two of the most famous vessels written about were Kennedy's PT 109, and the Carpathia, the ship first on the scene after the Titanic sank. All the stories were fascinating, and the many expaditions to find and authenticate the wreckages were even more fascinating. I'd recommend this book for everyone who likes adventure and history!

A wonderful insight into Clive Cussler.

This book gives us a peek into the man that writes the stories that we love read. He shares his love of the sea and the secrets there with in. This book makes me want to give up suburbia, grab my sandals and sign on with NUMA.

NOTE: ABRIDGED, But Still A Great Set Of Yarns

As an avid Cussler reader, I have already read The Sea Hunters I & II. They are excellent combinations of dramatization of historical events and Cussler's memoirs of his search for the lost wrecks.

As I was listening to this something seemed off-as if parts were missing or stories omitted entirely. I grabbed my personal copy and read along as the narrator continued. Sure enough, small changes have been made to wording, paragraphs skipped, and even a few stories and searches left out.

This is a shame as the narration is excellent and Cussler's knack for storytelling and his quick wit make The Sea Hunters II such an enjoyable read/listen. I am not a fan of abridged books, and even less of a fan of audio recordings that abridge the full story. This brings my rating to 3 stars overall as I feel the late Cussler would have been disappointed in the publisher's decision.

If you are new to Cussler, I would suggest listening to this title and then going out to purchase the full book for the entire experience. Dedicated Cussler fans may wish to skip entirely and just reread their personal copy.
