About this listen

When Lord Alec Hay returns from war, his mother is determined to see him wed. But he wants only to escape into the darkest room in his ruined castle and relive the harrowing moments in battle where he was unable to save his best friend.

Lady Giselle Hepburn, an impulsive lass, rides out from a neighboring estate during a storm, attempting to escape her family and a forced marriage to a man with a vicious dark side. She falls off her horse and nearly tumbles over a cliff but is saved by a handsome, mysterious Highlander. With a twisted ankle, and the weather too dangerous to attempt riding, Giselle agrees to ride out the storm all night with the stranger.

humor, irony

I liked it he characters, but unfortunately the narrator just about ruined it for me. He reads it well, except his Scot accent is horrible, and he doesn't differentiate the characters well.

These books have me in a chokehold

I’m literally a biased reader. I’m hooked on historical Scottish romances, and Eliza Knight and Antony Ferguson are a great author/narrator duo for that exact genre. Going to buy the next book in the series now 🏃🏽‍♀️

another great one!

2nd on the sseries, but could be a stand alone. I love Alec and Giselle. I laughed like I did with the first one, got a bit angry and nervous too
. Totally worth it! As always Anthony did a great job with the narration. his voice being the narrator of so many books has become the quintessential highlander voice for me!!!

The Beast

Whenever you buy an Eliza Knight book you won't be disappointed, especially if that book is also produced in audiobook format by Anthony Ferguson! He is without a masterful narrator with fabulous vocal abilities! If you look within instead of judging by the outside appearance, you have a better chance of finding what you seek. 😍

Facebook was very entertaining kept my interest sad to see it end. Love the characters and past characters from the other books that United with them.

The awful narration.

The narrator was hard to listen to. Won’t listen to any he narrates again. Story was cute but predictable.

Lackluster conclusion...

I'll start by saying I love Antony Ferguson. His voice is beautiful and is perfect for this book. Overall I think the author kind of forgot what the central plot point was besides "Alec and Giselle need to end up together". The main villain is Giselle's horrible fiancé, but he stops being the villain the second she leaves his castle. Once she is rescued by Alec, his mother becomes our main antagonist, but only for about 30 minutes then she's on Giselle's side. Once his mother is convinced, there's about 2 hours of "will they, won't they" with Alec and Giselle trying to find time alone together to court. Another minor antagonist is revealed as a woman who was attempting to marry Alec but she barely poses much of a threat and is resolved and quickly forgotten about. Then suddenly the author remembers the original villain of the evil fiancé and he returns, only to quickly and honestly quite unceremoniously be killed off. During an altercation with him and Alec, it's alluded that he has something sneaky planned and you're waiting for that reveal only for it to fizzle out and he's dead and no longer a problem. At that point there's still an hour or so left which is just them and their families bickering about wedding plans. They don't even get married during the novel, it's in the interlude between the end of the book and the epilogue, which is just as lackluster as the conclusion, finishing with, "oh yeah they got married and she's pregnant they're in love."
