Serviceable

The Ai cover is an immediate turn off. unless I missed them, as soon you get to the invisible man a lot of problems in the editing surface. On multiple occasions the retakes by the narnarrator were not edited out. Even in stories past that one. This being a comprehensive collection of good stories is the only reason I could suggest this title. Other than that, you can find better versions of these stories elsewhere.

A gold mine of old but pivotal sci-fi

This collection is clearly less than modern in content and in recording but it is a thorough introduction to early modern sci-fi. Full of classics my father always recommended and glimpses into what the sci-fi authors of the preceding generation thought and thought about.

Good stories

Chapters are not titled and some of the reading is subpar. The books are all excellent.

DO NOT WASTE A CREDIT ON THIS COLLECTION!

You have been warned. Sure, you may have 20 books but there is no table of contents. You'll never know when another book starts or ends. What you do get is 244 individually numbered chapters on a list but no knowledge of what you'll be looking for. And odds are, if you're a Sci-Fi fan such as I, you will already have a number of books that are here are already in your library.
Come on, Audible; you're better than this.

Not all sci fi stories

This collection feels like it was compiled by an AI. Not all of these stories are sci fi. Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde can at least (just barely) claim to have science elements, but The Great God Pan is a horror-themed mystery with a supernatural focus. It has as much in common with teen romance as it does with sci fi. Audio editing is shoddy throughout, especially near the end. DO NOT SPEND A CREDIT ON THIS.

Quantity vs. Quality

I picked this up because I liked that there were so many classic stories and hours of them. This collection suffers, however, from background noise in some stories, unedited first takes where the narrator rereads lines they didn't read correctly, changing narrator from one chapter to another in the same story without changing point of view or perspective (specifically in the Invisible Man), and mispronounced words.

There is no real 'table of contents', you need to view title details to see the book order within this collection. You can also hear the narrator turn the pages from time to time throughout. Pray you don't lose your place while listening, you will be hard pressed to find it again.

These are, primarily, classic stories. The stories themselves are timeless and in of themselves have the fortitude to stand alone. The production quality definitely detracts from the overall experience, and this is unfortunate.

If I had not used a monthly credit I would have asked for a refund. I'm sure I still can get my credit back, as I'm not in the habit of returning books to Audible, but I am determined to push through.
