About this listen

Daphne Sweeten left Paris - and a job she loved - to marry the man of her dreams in the U.S. But when he stands her up on their wedding day, she’s left reeling and senseless. Literally. She’s been trained as a perfume creator and now her sense of smell has disappeared along with her fiancé!

She has to figure out why her nose isn’t working, fix it, and get back to Paris. Meanwhile, she’ll rely on her chemistry skills and just hope her new boss at Gibraltar Products, Jesse, doesn’t notice her failing senses. They’ll be working together on household fragrances, not posh perfumes. How hard can it be?

As Daphne and Jesse work on a signature scent for their new line, she feels God at work as never before. And the promise of what’s possible is as fresh as the scent of rain.

Love, mystery, and perfume come together...

Love, mystery, and perfume come together in this book about a woman who has to find her way after a series of life-altering events. Her fiancée dumps her at the alter for mysterious reasons, she loses her ability to smell, which, for a perfume industry "nose," is devastating, and she develops an unnerving attraction for someone she is deceiving. All of this is interwoven with Christian concepts and themes.

I would have liked more information about the perfume industry, and I thought the book moved a bit slowly at times, but it was an enjoyable read. The author did a good job, but I felt like the cadence became too sing-songy. Overall, this is a great book for someone interested in perfume, love, and mystery.

Billerbeck never lets me down

What did you love best about The Scent of Rain?

I'm a big fan of KB's for a long time and she never disappoints. This is an excellent book about getting through when life gives you lemons. There's also more to the character Kenzie than meets the eye.

What does Angela Dawe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She does an excellent job voicing the different characters and brings them to life.

Whoop! Whoop! Kristin Billerbeck does it again!!!

I love the way Kristin Billerbeck threads faith in God and scripture into her story line. Her characters are people you can relate to and the themes of her books are consistent to challenges that we face today. Thank you for sharing your gift of writing with us!

Best of the three I've read by this author

This is the first of three I've read by this author, and this was my favorite. I've read other reviews indicating that this was a switch from the authors romance roots, and if that's the case, then it was a good call. The narrator's voice grated on my nerves a bit with some of the characters, but that is likely a personal preference.

good story, poor ending.

Overall this was a good story, beautifully written in the beginning. I connected with the main character until about the middle of the story, when it got a little dry. The ending felt rushed and sloppy, and left me wanting more. It felt very incomplete.

Don't judge a book by its cover!

I bought this title following Angela Dawe, who did a BRILLIANT job in MAYBE THIS TIME by J. Cruise. And also because I'm a sucker for nice covers and nice titles and the summary had potential.

Let me tell you what i found inside.
JUDGMENTAL AND CLICHE does not cover it.
It is so badly written, that even if you agree with the author's postulates you will agree that they are terribly expressed. There is no plot, there is some kind of weak story that comes and goes without much sense ( if any at all) to be a platform for Christian preaching. The many holes in said story are filled with quotations from the Bible. The metaphors seems to be written by a not very bright Sunday School teacher.
The characters are unreal, not comics but caricatures.
The preaching is everywhere, in almost every paragraph and to top it all the characters as dialogs sometimes say prayers! And oh, the dialogs, repetitive, plain, and sometimes are as if the author forgot to finish it or more probably did not know how so just left it.
The thing is I'm a believer, but I also believe in respect for the belief or not belief of others and when i encounter something like this i feel "verguenza ajena" which in spanish means to feel ashamed for someone else's actions.

The performance, i've learned with this audio that even a very good narrator can only do an average minus job if the material is no good.

Finally, to the Publishers I would say PLEASE DO WARN THAT THE BOOK IS CHRISTIAN OR CATHOLIC OR MUSLIM OR WITH STRONG RELIGIOUS OR POLITICAL BELIEFS, SO THE PEOPLE CAN DECIDE TO READ IT OR NOT.
