Lovely voice

Wonderful reminder of human suffering and triumph. The characters are believable and brought into life by the author.

Enjoyed it

Took a short while to warm up to the old English but the drama and liveliness of the writing pulled me in. I was amused by the narrator change of voice to portray the characters.

REALLY??

I will never know why a producer would hire a person with a speech defect to be a narrator, nor why such a person wants to display the defect thus!!! Really!!

Horrible, Horrible Narration

My students and I found this narration impossible to listen to. As one student put it "It sounds like they haven't read out loud before." I understand what they meant. The narration is choppy, doesn't contain a natural flow, and thus produces a boring and monotonous read for the duration of the book. We lasted 2 chapters before moving to Kate Petrie, who produces higher-quality material.

Don't buy this version

I bought the cheapest version of this audiobook and let's just say I got what I paid for. The version by Curtis Sisco is far and away the worst performance of an audiobook I've ever experienced. HOWEVER it got a lot better after I turned the speed to 1.25x. The book I quite enjoyed though.

Wow This Narrator is Bad

This book is hard to read, as-is... but with the narrator who sounds like he's reading to learn how to read, who then slows down even more when speaking for the "indians." holy crap this was hard to listen to...

Bad Narration

I could not finish this because of the narration. It sounded like he was just reading one word at a time without any flow or context

What disappointed you about The Scarlet Letter?

The narrator's voice. I am pretty easy going but the narrator's lisp-like impediment grated on my nerves after a while. The audio book was $2.95 but, WOW, it was not a bargain. I need to take the time to screen my selections a little better. I've read the book and I saw the price and I figured,

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Scarlet Letter?

I wasn't able to listen to all of it because of the narrator's voice.

What didn’t you like about Curtis Sisco’s performance?

He has a monotone voice with a lisp-like quality to it.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I love the story. I only wish they could have chosen a different narrator. Sorry, Curtis.

Any additional comments?

Buyers beware.

The Scarlet Letter read by Curtis Sisco

I wish I would have read the review first, this is a horrible audio. it is so slow. It sounds worse that a recording of a robot. I would never buy any work by this man again or suggest anyone to buy it. I am reading it for school and i am so disappointed that it is ruining the story
