:-)

This was a fun little story with a twist I didn't see coming. There aren't a lot of books I can say that for.

Awesome Bunker Book

A story of a father and a son, and what a father will do to see his son's dreams come true.

This is an awesome time travel story by probably one of the best authors in the business, Michael Bunker. If you have never read any of his works here would be a great place to start. This story was made even better as a audio narrated by Alex Silver. Between the writing and the narrating I felt as though I was there and could see everything happening as though I was part of it. And that is really cool of any book.

I have one complaint

I WANTED MORE!! Such a well written and well performed story. I was upset when it ended and it wasn't just because it ended abruptly. More short stories do. A good short story leaves you wanting more and this did.

Another Great Time Travel Story!

Being a fan of time travel stories, I’ve been looking forward to listening to the audio book version of Michael Bunker’s short story, “The Santa Anna Gold,” ever since I heard it was coming out. I read it in the anthology Synchronic a few years ago, and was just so-so in my feelings towards it, but times change (I had to use the phrase since this IS a time travel story).

Perhaps, at least for me, the way this story is told comes across better when someone is spinning this particular yarn into your ear, as if you’re sitting around a campfire at night with a bunch of friends. The narrator did a great job bringing “The Santa Anna Gold” to life, making you feel like you are part of the story.

No doubt Bunker is one of the most talented writers in today’s crowded field, and if you haven’t read any of his fiction yet, you’re in for lots of fun.

What a joy this SS turned out to be

I thoroughly enjoyed this time travel short story! The author just has a way of taking you back, and dropping you right smack dab into the center of your history book, and retelling the story as if you were there yourself. And the slow, easy speech of the narrator adds to it, and makes it all the more believable. My only complaint about the book is that it was not a full length novel. I think this is the 3rd time travel book I have read of Michael Bunkers, and all of them have been great. If you are like me and are into time traveling stories, his serial story he wrote called "Time Looters" is awesome! This author can really spin a tale, and is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

Quick and fun Story

What did you like best about this story?

The Story was fun! Now the question did the old man's son time travel or is the old man nuts? I think he did make it back but find the money I am not so sure. Then again is that why the old man was thrown on to the back of pick-up? Now what is really believable is that is all a government cover up. If you get a chance listen and make up your own mind it only 37 minutes. I very much enjoyed it please note I was given the audio free in turn asked to give an honest review. Thumbs up for this one!

Opens up worlds of ideas for time travel

Michael is certainly the one to write this story, and I'm glad he did. In real life, the author is an off the grid farmer who has one of the best minds out there for science fiction with a family friendly tone. His novel, Pennsylvania is a chief example of his gift at showing new technological possibilities with a heart for the love within family. In this story we have a father and his only living child doing some fascinating father son time: preparing to travel back in time to find a stash of gold. The trick to how they travel is getting into the mind of the place they will visit--again something Michael is aptly suited to write about because of the culture that he lives in as an off the grid farmer. When I listened to this I could easily imagine Michael doing the exact same thing with one of his sons, which was a precious thing to ponder. I love to hear stories of fathers doting on their children and making them feel as special as one can. The unique method of time travel could open up to a series of books or stories. The ending was a great surprise. Quality work on the audiobook production as well.

A terrific tale...

I love time travel stories and this one is terrific! I just finished listening to the audio version read by Alex Silver. Alex catches just the right tone of this Bunker story... Alex playes the part of a man trying to help out his son who believes that he can travel through time... To find out how this story unfolds you'll want to get the eBook or better yet the audible version for your library, and see what you think! This story was originally published in a collection called Synchronic...
