About this listen

Groundbreaking in its inclusiveness, enthralling in its narrative of a movement whose purpose, in the words of Leon Trotsky, was "to overthrow the world", The Russian Revolution draws conclusions that aroused great controversy in this country. Richard Pipes argues convincingly that the Russian Revolution was an intellectual, rather than a class, uprising; that it was steeped in terror from its very outset; and that it was not a revolution at all but a coup d'etat - "the capture of governmental power by a small minority."

Excellent audio book on Russian revolution

Really enjoyed the narration of this audio book. Excellent detail on an obscure part of history many of us in the west do not no about.

Eye Opening

Possibly my favorite audiobook I’ve ever listened too, easily my favorite non fiction one. Before I was of the opinion that Lenin wasn’t that bad, his message was simply twisted by Stalin who was easily recognizable as a monster. As this book makes clear though Lenin laid the groundwork not just for Stalin but for similar terrors and repression’s during the 20th Century. The narration in addition was excellent.

The evil of socialism in its fullest

Pipe’s “The Russian Revolution” documents in detail the socialist doctrines which, when pursued to their ends, results in the evil destruction of man, freedom and fruitfulness. A must read to see and understand the tactics and strategies that are rearing up here.

Enlightening and provocative critique

Pipes once controversial interpretation of the Russian revolution as not a popular uprising but a coup d'etat we now know to have been the correct one all along thanks to the post Cold war opening of Russian archives. This is an essential read for any student of Russian history.

Excellent read, lots of information

More people should read this book to have a more complete understanding of just how pure evil the bolsheviks were, and how incompetent the imperial regime was.

Marxism/Leninism Revealed

Great explanation and insights into the horrific nature of Marxism and Leninism. Shocking how such a small band of fanatics could plunge a country of 90 million into a century of terror and mass murder.

Impressive performance

Michael Page gives the appropriate feel with his voice to this book, a well considered comprehensive book on the Russian Revolution. I used this Audible recording to accompany my reading of the book which increase my appreciation and study. The value of this practice is always the performance and talent of the narrator. Page lends his talent and experience as a narrator to this expansive book to make it valuable to listeners.
