The Southern accent on the Northerners!

The drama of the battle scene was very descriptive. Overall, it was a pretty good book.

A different kind of story

When I got this book I didn’t know what to expect because I knew nothing about it. The author did an exceptional job of displaying how “the youth” came to a better understanding of himself during the course of just a few battles, even though the author had never personally experienced a battle himself.

Short and sweet

A short, quick read of fiction about the Civil War. I found the writing style intriguing. The story was interesting but not compelling.

Breathtakingly beautiful, brutal, and real

This novel pulls you into the middle of battle and never lets go. The description is brutal yet beautiful. I listened in two sittings. It was narrated perfectly. It should be a must-read for students.

Realistic, vivid, and full of action

Loved that the story started with Henry’s relationship with his Mother and how he grew from boy to man throughout the story.

Masterfully Read

The narrator adds a significant amount to this Classic. I highly recommend this edition.

Fiction that was nonfiction 🇺🇸

An amazing work that is unbelievably realistic. An excellent write that seems realistic the author is descriptive & has more insight than most. Written by a young brilliant author, Robert Crane.

Excellent descriptive narrative.
This was a reading assignment for me in 1966, which I never completed, until I listened to it now. Glad I found this Audible version.
