About this listen

I have no notion who I am meant to be.

In 1789, a terrible crime is committed, plunging one family into grief as another rejoices in the gift of an unexpected son. Two decades later, a chance meeting leads to the discovery of the lost heir of Pemberley and the man who knew himself as Mr, William Lucas is restored to his birthright as Fitzwilliam Darcy of Pemberley.

Discovering the truth about his past means leaving behind everyone and everything he has ever known and loved - including his childhood best friend and soon-to-be betrothed, Elizabeth Bennet. Tormented by questions about himself, and his place, Darcy struggles to understand and adapt to his changed identity and his new life. He must contend with a father buried in the shadows of the past and family relationships he does not understand.

The truth has come out. Some have gained by it, some have lost by it, and I am in the middle. I cannot possibly make everyone happy. No matter what I do, someone will suffer. No matter what I do, I shall suffer.

Somehow, he must find a way to do right by his new and old families, especially if he is to avoid losing Elizabeth forever.

Excellent Narration

This is a great story, and the narration quality is excellent. I always love it when there is a happily ever after for Charlotte.

Delightful P&P Variation

This is a wonderful P&P variation. I loved the story and it had the right amount of angst. It is Clean and it is different. I recommend to anyone that enjoys a good love story. The Audible Version is beautifully read!

Great Listen

Very good narration by David Pickering. I really enjoyed the audio version of this excellent book. I read the book last year and had forgotten the angst. It’s not over the top, but it will have you worrying a few times! Recommend

Pretty good

I'm a fan of various writings of this author. the story was good with a different take on a surprise background trope. My only issue was with the complete indecisiveness of certain characters. At many times, I felt that both Darcy and Elizabeth could have easily solved their problems with certain circumstances if they had just said something. However that might just be due to my own forthrightness.

Happily a long listen

This is a long book and never does it get boring as it just moves along at the perfect rate. The angst in the book is very realistic and the story has a natural flow that gives us insight to how the characters would have reacted in this situation. Very relatable characters.

Absolutely wonderful

I have read several Pride and Prejudice adaptations and this is definitely one of my new favorites. It wasn’t so similar to the original story that it was boring but it still has the same feel with maybe a little more drama. I really, really enjoyed this book.

A weak Darcy???? Not my fav version

The plot is definitely different. However, it would have been much improved with our beloved strong Darcy character. Honestly, there is little likable about an inconsistent, indecisive, weak willed Fitz William Darcy.

Painful

Not well written and not believable. Just painful. Did not finish. I wish I hadn’t wasted my money on this drivel.
