About this listen

Remember when socialism was a dirty word? Now students at America's elite universities are parroting socialist talking points and "sure thing" Hillary Clinton is struggling to win the Democratic nomination against a 74-year-old avowed socialist who promises to make the nation more like Europe. What's happened? Do Americans need a reminder about the dangers of socialist ideology and practices?

Thomas DiLorenzo, economics professor and senior fellow at the Ludwig von Mises Institute, deconstructs the retrograde ideology that has suddenly become disturbingly hip in The Problem with Socialism.

Efficient, comprehensive, educated, enlightening.

I'll start with the narrator. He has an excellent baritone voice that is perfect for long listening sessions without feeling strained.

I finished this book in about 4 days, and it was an incredibly engrossing (If disturbing) experience for me.

DiLorenzo laid out the ills of socialism in all of its forms, and the brutal laying-on of information, information, information was almost overbearing. I ABSOLUTELY would recommend this.

A Well Articulated Summary & Quick, Easy Listen

A good summary of the perils of socialism for those who have never lived though such a regime and a terse, perhaps bitter, reminder for those who have.

I would urge anyone, especially young people, who are considering what they believe (or have been told) to be the benefits and idealism of socialism to test those considerations in the acid of this author's exposure of the subject.

Great book - Very Relevant

It's very annoying when the narrator doesn't take the time to learn correct name pronunciations

DiLorenzo Delivers! Great and Easy to Understand!

This book was a real eye opener. I really thought I understood Socialism, but Thomas DiLorenzo has written a book that gets deep into the different types of Socialism and makes it easy for the general public to understand. I had no idea about some of the hideous things that have come about because of Socialism, I just knew the surface things that most Americans know. Because we have been free, we don't get it... we don't understand how Socialism really works. We don't understand what it's like to live in a country who murders millions of it's people... a Socialist county -- killing their people, taking their property, pillaging their bank accounts.... Americans don't get it because we have been blessed! But, it's coming and I appreciate Thomas DiLorenzo for digging in and delivering the facts. My family and I highly recommend this book. It's quite frightening, but America,... if this is coming here, we need to be ready to stop it!
HUGE Kudos to Bob Souer who did a stellar job narrating this with energy and passion. Mr. Souer is one of the best narrators in the field today! Great job Bob!

Fantastic book. It should be a mandatory read for all school-age children and anyone who considers socialism a good thing Thomas dilorenzo once again does not disappoint.

Very quick, and very informative.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Problem with Socialism?

The public schoil system was very interesting. I especially liked the supermarket analogy.

What does Bob Souer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator was amazing.

Any additional comments?

The book is just non stop information. I love no fluff or filler just hard hitting facts. This was a great read.

Relearning an age old lesson.

The decline of all governments is the story of gradual erosion of rights until a breaking point is reached. This is the story of where America is headed, where other countries who have been there before ended up, and how we keep believing a set of lies that is, in many ways, as old as government itself.
