About this listen

No one man or woman has ever been in a position to see the presidents, and the presidency, so intimately, over so many years. They called him in for photo opportunities. They called for comfort. They asked about death and salvation; about sin and forgiveness.

At a time when the nation is increasingly split over the place of religion in public life, The Preacher and the Presidents reveals how the world's most powerful men and world's most famous evangelist, Billy Graham, knit faith and politics together.

very interesting

very interesting view into the whitehouse; my only criticism - a small one - was that at one point the book seemd more about Nixon than Graham, as it seemed to go on and on about this one President.

Excellence Abridged

I bought this thinking I was getting the whole; I was not. On the other hand, the narration was so good, I had to have the book. Once I has it, I realized how extensive the editing had been. So a big "boo" to Audible for not letting customers know about their arrangement, but a round of applause for Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy for a great book. L.J. Gardner's narration was risky (using a Carolina accent when quoting Graham), but for me it deepened the experience.

Historical Peospective

Dr. Billy Graham offers insight into the personal & spiritual lives of America's Presidents. It is a great review of historical events & the significance that religion played through the lives of many people in political power during various administrations. History & the people are presented in a different perspective.

Great behind the scenes.

This gives us a rare look at the spiritual side of the public office and one mans involvement in it. Humanizes both Billy Graham and the Presidents.

Outstanding

Very well written. I love how are you getting historical reminders of events and people and leaders of the past century woven together with the personal story. Five stars for the research that must’ve gone in to preparing for the book to be written so well.

Wish you guys had warned me

Would you try another book from Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy and/or L. J. Ganser?

No

Would you ever listen to anything by Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy again?

Not if I remember their names--which I'd prefer to forget

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It's well told.

Any additional comments?

Your description should have warned a liberal that this book is full of veiled Republican propaganda. Billy Graham may have tried to be neutral with the Democrats, but the writers sure weren't. I felt like I'd been duped into a massive waste of my time. I'm a strong Christian--just in case you wondered. Yes, there are strong Christians in the Democratic Party--we just believe, like the new Pope: that you see the strength of that commitment by how people treat those who are not as fortunate as they are. That was what Jesus taught.

Enjoyed the story. Didn't like the narration.

I was very interested to hear Billy Graham's travels through so many presidents over the years. The narrator sounded like he was announcing a football game the whole time.

Boring...

I thought this book was incredibly boring, and they took some pretty cheap shots at one of the most prolific American figures, ever. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. After listening to both downloads, I still couldn't tell you what I learned from it. It was like listening to a lecture in preparation for an exam.
