However, in a country of more than 325 million people, addressing everyone's issues is challenging. How can we effect beneficial change for everyone so we all can thrive? In this book, Daniel E. Dawes argues that political determinants of health create the social drivers - including poor environmental conditions, inadequate transportation, unsafe neighborhoods, and lack of healthy food options - that affect all other dynamics of health. By understanding these determinants, their origins, and their impact on the equitable distribution of opportunities and resources, we will be better equipped to develop and implement actionable solutions to close the health gap.

Dawes draws on his firsthand experience helping to shape major federal policies, including the Affordable Care Act, to describe the history of efforts to address the political determinants that have resulted in health inequities. Taking us further upstream to the underlying source of the causes of inequities, Dawes examines the political decisions that lead to our social conditions, makes the social determinants of health more accessible, and provides a playbook for how we can address them effectively.

Like listening to a speak-and-spell

The book is well-written and important for anyone interested in health policy. I strongly urge people to get the written version though; the audio version is unbearably bad. I know it’s read by an actual person but his cadence sounds like bad AI … honestly it was so bad I just couldn’t listen past the first chapter. It felt like listening to a speak-and-spell.

The author provides direct connections between policies and practices that impact population health. This text is a must read for citizens especially healthcare providers.

Inspired and insightful book

A timely book on the fight for health equity. I will be recommending this book to my friends.

Racism & discrimination Continue

This is a good eye opener to see How privilege impacts everything in our lifetime from healthcare access to everything else. Most of you familiar with this topic will probably find this informative as it does permeate to other bounds.

Great factual history, terrible narrator

The information in this book was valid, helpful and informative. Too bad the narrator was so boring that I found my mind constantly wandering. Get it for the info but only listen to it when you are doing something else to Lee you awake.

This book should be on a record because it spins!

While I subscribe to the concern about the political determinants of health, this is a one sided view. The author spews deceptions through one sided views. not worth the monthly credit.
