About this listen

Sinclair Wortham, Lord Mayville is a man haunted by the sins of his family and by the rejection of the woman he once loved. Seeking solace from his loneliness and an escape from the secrets hidden within the crumbling walls of his family home, he heads to the local tavern for some company and truly atrocious brandy. But Sinclair makes a terrible mistake. After a brief foray outside, his drunken wandering does not lead him back to the inn and the very willing serving girl who awaits him there. It leads him, instead, to the vicarage next door...and to the vicar's plain daughter, Althea Parker.

Althea is used to being forgotten. She is used to being ignored. She is also very much used to loving Lord Mayville from afar while being utterly certain he has never glanced her way. But when he drunkenly stumbles into her bedchamber one night, she's stunned. So stunned that she screams down the rafters, bringing her father and patrons from the nearby tavern running.

Now they are trapped, forced to marry and forced to make the best of a situation that neither of them wanted—at least not in that way. But there is one universal truth.... We rarely get what we want in life, but fate has a way of giving us what we need.

Nothing Plain About This One - I Loved It!

On his way to a late night uh … rendezvous, a few wrong turns landed Sinclair Wortham in a whole heap of trouble! Perhaps if he hadn’t been drunk, or neeked, or mistakenly ended up in the Vicarage, in Althea’s bedchamber, trying to climb INTO Althea’s bed! Oops!!! “The Plain Bride” is fantastic! I laughed … a lot, I aweed a bit, I wanted hug a couple of the characters and do bodily harm to a few others! I was throughly engaged, completely invested in this story and these characters, transported into their world my interest held throughout! I ugly cried at the beautiful wrap up, and in true Chasity Bowlin fashion, even then she had me laughing through my tears with the wit and humor in her sparking fresh dialogue and brilliant scene setting! Her stories, always so fresh and entertaining, her characters so brilliantly detailed, defined and developed, and her scene setting always giving the listener exactly what is needed to throughly understand the story without slowing or interfering WITH the story! The entire package! It just never gets old, AND every single element was present in THIS story! Beautifully done! And, speaking of beautifully done, the narration was amazing, truly bringing this delightful story ALIVE! It was such a pleasure to close my eyes and be one with these characters, all of these characters, even the ones I wanted to bop! To be able to FEEL so clearly their emotional mindset through the vocal intonations of the narrators truly made for a vibrant, beautifully animated and sparkling listen! I really loved everything about “The Plain Bride”. Five sparkling stars!

Simply delightful Captivating

The way this couple met had me laughing so hard. I pictured it vividly with this narration. Sinclair is a piece of work , but love changed him for the better despite his human moments of error. Althea is beyond patient and kind, and it wears Sinclair down. I loved these transformations. She was beyond lucky to escape the degrading prison of her father, regardless how it came about . The road to love is a bit rocky, but in the end love conquers all. and good friends are priceless. I loved their impulsive passion. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrators did an excellent job bringing the characters and story to life. I highly recommend this.

Fabulous!

The quality of this story and the narration is just fabulous!
I loved the main characters and their story was the best so far in this series.
Both Sinclain Wortham, Lord Mayville and Althea Parker have their own horrid pasts to contend with, so when they meet, under very ‘funny’ circumstances, it is a tragedy of errors and they have to learn to live with this as best they can.
I also enjoyed the parts Sabine and Grayson (from the previous book) played in this story.
And then we have the duo of Lillian Yves and Vincent Lee Grayson who bring Chasity Bolin’s clever story to life with their telling of it.
Altogether and well rounded effort by all concened.
I listened to a promotional copy of the audiobook and happily give my voluntary review of it.

Well written, but a little blah

Pros: Packed in a lot of plot for a 4-hour book. Well-paced. I enjoyed the two side characters, Sabrine and her husband Greyson, who apparently are main characters in another book.

Cons: Neither the hero, or the heroine was especially compelling. A little more physical description might have made them more real to the reader. The hero was a little on the weak side. The h’s father was exaggeratedly villainous with no explanation for his actions except that he didn’t like his daughter.

Conclusion: There wasn’t really anything wrong with the story, It was good background when folding laundry, or doing dishes, but I kind of wish that I hadn’t spent a credit on it.
